Accredited Drug Testing offers extensive hair follicle drug evaluations in Eva, Oklahoma. Specializing in hair and alcohol tests, our nationwide centers are fully equipped for thorough hair assessments. A hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches on the head or body is necessary in typical scenarios. Our tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and include other custom hair examination choices.

Recently, drug testing methodologies have increasingly involved hair follicle assessments. Many employers, judicial systems, and substance specialists now opt for hair testing over traditional urine screenings. Employers with zero tolerance policies, courts, and probationers commonly select hair tests. This method offers a superior detection window, up to 90 days, and employs a monitored collection method, making it nearly foolproof. Nonetheless, for detecting drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise option.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly regarded as a potent means for detecting drug and alcohol usage. Hair offers a prolonged history of alcohol and drugs by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When collected near the scalp, hair can reveal a detection window of approximately three months for alcohol and drugs. It's easy to collect, somewhat challenging to adulterate, and simple to mail.

A 1.5-inch sample comprising about 200 hair strands (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp can yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests above 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is suggested. We suggest weighing the specimen on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not present, an equivalent amount of body hair may be used. When we mention head hair, we are specifically referring to scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result involves four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial stage of processing a sample into a laboratory’s system. This step involves ensuring the sample was sealed and shipped correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides a quick preliminary check for drugs of abuse. While Screening is a cost-effective method to dismiss drug usage in the majority of samples, a positive screen must be confirmed for admissibility in a legal context. Any presumptively positive samples during Screening require a secondary confirmation.

If a sample is presumptively positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other assays (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging methodology to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive result from the Screening stage is conducted using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The complete laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a more limited detection period.
  • Difficulty to cheat: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely difficult, ensuring more accurate results.
  • Provides historical data: It can demonstrate a pattern of drug use over time, rather than just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Approximately 5-7 days are needed for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Cost: Generally, hair drug tests are costlier than other drug testing methods.
  • Variations in results: Variables such as hair color and individual growth rates can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although commonly called "hair follicle tests", the analysis actually examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Eva, OK, hair follicle tests surpass traditional urine tests by offering extended detection accuracy and reliability.
Employers and authorities seeking comprehensive insight into substance use find hair tests invaluable; their ability to detect drug use for up to 90 days is a feat that urine tests can't match.

While urine tests are effective for recent drug use detection, hair testing outshines by reducing false negatives and improving detection consistency over the long term.
Additionally, the near impossibility of cheating hair tests contributes to their superiority over traditional methods.

Extended Detection Window

In Eva, OK, the extensive detection window of hair follicle testing provides an unmatched advantage.
With the capability to ascertain substance use up to 90 days back, it provides employers with a panoramic view of an individual's drug history.

This expanded assessment period is vital for employers, enabling informed decision-making regarding hiring or sustained employment.
As opposed to shorter timeframes with other testing methodologies, hair testing delivers a historic substance use profile.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle testing in Eva, OK, sets it apart as a trustworthy method.
This approach minimizes the risk of sample meddling, ensuring that results are credible and unassailable.

Given the invasive nature of other testing forms like urine, which are susceptible to tampering, hair testing confidently withstands manipulation.
Employers can trust these results, as the integrity of the hair sample remains preserved from collection to analysis.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
