Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Fair Oaks, Oklahoma. If you need to undergo testing for drugs or alcohol, our expertise lies in hair analysis, and we boast testing facilities in cities across the country capable of conducting hair tests. Ideally, your hair on the crown or body should be 1.5 to 2 inches long for testing. Hair analysis is applicable for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored options.

In recent times, drug testing increasingly favors hair follicle tests. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse professionals prefer hair over urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and those on probation commonly use hair follicle tests. Their primary advantage is a long detection window for drug usage, generally up to 90 days, with supervised collection that is hard to defraud. Yet, for recent drug use within five days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has become recognized as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended timeline of alcohol and drug intake by embedding biomarkers within the strands of hair as they grow. When collected near the scalp, the hair can provide a detection span of up to about three months for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and convenient for transport.

A sample size of 1.5 inches consisting of around 200 hair strands (similar in thickness to a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is ideal for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels beyond 10, a 150mg sample is suggested. We advise measuring the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, an equal quantity of body hair can be gathered. When discussing head hair, it specifically refers to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result includes four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning consists of the preliminary processing of a sample into a lab’s system. This step includes ensuring the sample was sealed and dispatched correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any extra data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of a preliminary rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. While Screening serves as a cost-efficient method to exclude drug presence in most samples, a positive screen necessitates confirmation to be valid legally. Samples with presumptive positive results in Screening require additional confirmation.

In the case of a presumptive positive in the Screening phase, more hair is extracted from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are removed from hair at a concentration lower than those in other methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is regarded as the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation for any positive screening is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positive results are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is inspected under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection span: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection period.
  • Challenge to deceive: It is extremely tough to manipulate a hair drug test, leading to more precise outcomes.
  • Offers historical insights: It can reveal a pattern of drug consumption over time, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Unavailable for recent detection: It typically requires 5-7 days for substances to be traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests usually incur higher costs compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis is on the hair strand, not the follicle situated beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Fair Oaks, OK, offers distinct advantages over urine testing. While traditional tests like urine provide limited detection windows, hair tests can identify drug use over an extended period. This longer detection timeframe ensures more comprehensive screenings, capturing historical substance use patterns not visible in urine tests.

Employers and organizations in Fair Oaks find hair testing's superior detection capabilities invaluable for upholding strict drug use policies. The reliability and accuracy in recognizing drug use histories make hair tests an optimal choice for thorough assessments.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Fair Oaks, OK, boasts an extended detection window, uncovering drug use up to 90 days prior. This feature provides employers with a detailed snapshot of a potential or current employee's substance use history. By revealing long-term trends, hair tests allow for informed decision-making.

This broader detection period supports employers in maintaining safe and productive environments while offering insights into behavioral patterns that might go unnoticed in shorter-term tests such as urine screenings.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

With its tamper-resistant methods, hair follicle testing in Fair Oaks, OK, minimizes sample adulteration risks, ensuring reliable and unquestionable results. The inherent characteristics of hair samples make them difficult to alter or substitute, enhancing the test's integrity.

Employers can confidently rely on the authenticity of hair test results, knowing they derive from an unaltered sample. This reliability is crucial for making informed employment decisions and upholding workplace policies.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
