Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Mannsville, Oklahoma. If you're seeking a hair or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair analyses, offering testing centers throughout U.S. cities, including Mannsville. A hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches from the crown or body is typically necessary. These tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or can be customized for various substances.

Recently, drug testing methodologies have increasingly involved hair follicle tests. Numerous employers, courts, and substance abuse experts now prefer hair drug exams over standard urine analyses. Hair tests are favored by zero-tolerance workplaces, courts, and probationary individuals. Their primary advantage is an extended detection timeframe of up to 90 days, conducted under observation, minimizing the potential for cheating. However, for detecting recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now regarded as an effective means for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of these substances by embedding biomarkers within the strands. A sample collected near the scalp can offer a detection window of up to about 3 months for alcohol and drugs. Collecting hair is straightforward, moderately difficult to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches of around 200 hairs (approximately the size of a #2 pencil) near the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is optimal for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional options, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is advised. It's advisable to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't present, an equivalent amount of body hair can be used. References to head hair specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair indicates all other categories (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result encompasses four major steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the initial intake of a sample into a laboratory's records. This step ensures the sample was properly sealed and shipped, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and performs any further data entry not handled by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers a preliminary rapid test for drugs of abuse. Though Screening is cost-effective for excluding drug use in most cases, a positive screen must be verified to be admissible in legal contexts. Any samples flagged as presumptively positive in Screening need a secondary confirmation.

For samples indicated as presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and prepared for Extraction. Drugs are extracted from hair at lower concentrations than in methods like urine or oral fluid testing, which explains why hair testing is the most challenging method to conduct.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques are used to confirm any positive screening outcomes. Presumptively positive samples are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory workflow from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed following both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditations.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can uncover drug usage for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection durations.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating on a hair drug test is extremely challenging, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Reveals usage patterns: It details a pattern of drug use over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect immediate use: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days post-use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly compared to alternative testing methods.
  • Result variability: Variations in hair color and individual hair growth rates can impact measure of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although commonly called "hair follicle tests", the analysis is performed on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
