Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Pierce, Oklahoma. Whether you require testing for drugs or alcohol, our team specializes in hair testing. We boast testing facilities across various cities nationwide readily capable of conducting these tests. Typically, a minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is needed from your head's crown or body. Our hair tests cover a range of substances, including drugs, alcohol/ETG, and custom options.

Recently, hair follicle testing has increasingly become the go-to method for drug testing over traditional methods. Employers, courts, and substance abuse experts prefer it over urine tests. Those upholding strict zero-tolerance drug policies, judicial entities, and individuals on probation often choose hair follicle tests. The test's primary advantage is its lengthy detection window of up to 90 days, gathered under observation to deter tampering. Still, for detecting recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the gold standard.

What it is, How it works

Hair screening is now regarded as a formidable method for identifying the use of drugs and alcohol. Hair serves as a time-extended record of alcohol and drug use by embedding biomarkers within the strands of the developing hair fiber. A sample collected close to the scalp can offer a detection period of nearly three months for both alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively tamper-resistant, and convenient for shipping.

A hair strand sample of 1.5 inches representing around 200 strands (approximately matching a #2 pencil's thickness) near the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional analyses, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a specimen weight of 150mg is suggested. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen is recommended. If scalp hair is not available, a comparable amount of body hair can be used. The term head hair refers exclusively to scalp hair, while body hair covers all other hair forms (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The drug test result processing in the laboratory involves four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the sample's initial integration into a laboratory's system, ensuring the sample was properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any further data entry not present in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers a preliminary rapid check for substance abuse drugs. Though Screening is an affordable means to exclude drug consumption for most samples, a positive result from Screening necessitates confirmation for legal admissibility. Samples showing presumptive positivity in Screening need additional verification.

For samples indicating a tentative positive during Screening, further hair is extracted from the primary specimen and readied for Extraction. During this stage, drugs are drawn out from hair at significantly lower concentrations than in alternative methodologies (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging technique to administer.

Confirmation for any positive screening outcome is conducted using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Any samples that are presumably positive are cleaned before confirmation as required. The whole laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and the certification to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug assessments can identify drug consumption for as long as 90 days, contrasting with urine tests that feature a shorter detection period.
  • Cheating difficulty: It is extremely challenging to deceive a hair drug test, ensuring more reliable outcomes.
  • Historical insights: It can reveal a pattern of drug consumption over time, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent use: Drugs take about 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be costlier than other drug assessment techniques.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although commonly called "hair follicle tests", the examination itself is performed on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle testing to traditional urine tests, one notices the superior accuracy and reliability of the former. Hair testing in Pierce, OK, ensures a broader detection window, identifying substance use woven over timeframes that urine tests may miss.

Superior Detection: Hair tests offer unmatched accuracy, reliably catching long-term substance use that could evade the detection capabilities of urine analysis.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window: In Pierce, OK, hair follicle testing offers a significant detection window of up to 90 days. This allows employers to view a comprehensive history of an individual's substance use, providing deeper insights into their behaviors.

The extended timeframe of test analysis surpasses other methods, revealing patterns unseen through shorter-range tests, helping make more informed decisions.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests implemented in Pierce, OK, offer a unique tamper-resistant method that significantly reduces the risk of sample adulteration. The collection process is observed, adding a layer of security and ensuring that test results are credible.

Such integrity in testing provides confidence in the results, as attempts at deception through sample manipulation become nearly impossible.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
