Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Platter, Oklahoma. For those in need of hair drug or alcohol tests, our expertise lies in hair testing with facilities available in every city nationwide. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair is necessary. Hair testing can be tailored to detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific requirements.

Recently, drug testing methods have increasingly incorporated hair follicle drug tests. This method is preferred by many employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals over traditional urine tests. Zero-tolerance policies adopted by employers, as well as courts and probationary scenarios, often mandate hair drug testing. Its significant advantage lies in a 90-day detection window, with a collection process that is hard to deceive. For detection within five days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has become widely recognized as a highly effective method for uncovering drug and alcohol consumption. By capturing biomarkers in the hair's fibers, hair offers a comprehensive long-term record of substance use. When collected near the scalp, hair can reveal up to around a 3-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively resilient to tampering, and easily transportable.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the circumference of a #2 pencil) adjacent to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for screening and confirmation purposes. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, it's advisable to have 150mg of the sample. Using a jeweler’s scale for precise measurement of the sample is recommended. If scalp hair is not available, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. The term "head hair" specifically refers to scalp hair, while "body hair" encompasses all other hair types (such as facial and axillary hair).

Process Overview

The drug testing process in a laboratory comprises four crucial stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial step of incorporating a sample into a lab’s system. This involves verifying the sample's sealing and shipping conditions, generating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any necessary data entry not managed by an electronic chain of custody framework.

Screening serves as a preliminary assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is an economical way to discount drug usage in most samples, a positive result requires confirmation to be court-admissible. Presumptively positive Screening samples necessitate a secondary confirmation.

When a sample shows a presumptive positive in Screening, more hair is extracted from the original sample for preparation in the Extraction phase. This phase involves extracting drugs from hair at concentrations significantly lower than found in other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening one of the most challenging methodologies.

Any confirmed positive results in Screening are verified through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples showing presumptive positivity undergo washing before confirmation if necessary. The entire process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized following both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can reveal drug use up to 90 days prior, unlike urine tests that have a shorter detection span.
  • Difficult to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is exceedingly challenging, resulting in more reliable results.
  • Offers historical patterns: It can illustrate a timeline of drug consumption over time, rather than just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect immediate use: It typically takes around 5-7 days for drugs to be traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing is typically costlier than other testing forms.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal hair growth differences can influence the concentration of drug metabolites found in the hair.

Note: Often labeled as "hair follicle tests," the analysis targets the hair strand itself, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing the benefits of hair testing to traditional urine tests in Platter, OK, the superiority in detection accuracy becomes evident. Hair follicle tests provide a reliable diagnostic tool for long-term substance use, making it a preferred choice for employers focused on thoroughness and reliability. Extended Detection Window

The allure of hair follicle testing in Platter, OK lies in its extended detection window, capable of revealing drug use dating back up to 90 days. This method offers employers an exhaustive assessment of an applicant or employee's substance habits, providing critical insights for informed decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
