Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Quinton, Oklahoma. Whether you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise lies in hair testing with centers available in every city Nationwide for easy access. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is required. Hair testing can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailored options for specific requirements.

Recently, conducting drug tests increasingly employs hair follicle analysis. Employers, legal systems, and Substance Abuse experts often opt for this over traditional urine testing. Hair follicle tests support zero-tolerance policies, are used in courts, and for individuals on probation. Their advantage includes an extended detection period up to 90 days, conducted under observation, and is difficult to manipulate. However, urine tests remain most accurate for recent drug use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now considered a crucial method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair serves as a long-term record of substance use by preserving biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When taken near the scalp, hair can offer a detection period of up to three months for alcohol and other substances. Additionally, it is easy to collect, somewhat resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of about 200 hair strands (similar to the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg, an ideal amount for initial testing and verification. For EtG, additional tests, or those exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for accurate measurement. Should scalp hair be unavailable, a comparable quantity of body hair may be used. When we say head hair, it specifically refers to scalp hair only, whereas body hair includes all other types (facial, underarm, etc.).

Procedure Overview

The laboratory analysis of a drug test result involves four main stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning refers to the initial integration of a sample into the laboratory's process. This step checks the secure sealing and shipping of the sample, assigns a random Laboratory Accessioning Number (LAN), and finalizes any additional data input not covered by an electronic custody tracking system.

Screening is a preliminary assessment for substances of abuse. Although Screening is a cost-effective approach to dismiss drug use in most samples, a positive screen still needs verification for legal acceptability. Any sample flagged as presumptively positive during Screening requires further verification.

Should a sample test presumptively positive in the Screening stage, additional hair is retrieved from the initial sample and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at far lower concentrations compared to other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug analysis one of the most challenging procedures.

Verification of any positive screening outcome is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Any presumptive positive specimens are cleansed prior to verification, as needed. The whole laboratory procedure, from Accessioning through to Confirmation, is assessed under both the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Hair criteria and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Benefits of hair drug analysis:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can identify drug use up to 90 days, whereas urine tests provide a narrower detection window.
  • Challenging to falsify: It is quite challenging to manipulate a hair drug test, leading to increasingly reliable results.
  • Offers historical insight: Provides a record of drug use patterns over time, rather than just recent consumption.

Challenges:

  • Unable to detect recent use: Detection in hair generally takes around 5-7 days post-use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically incur higher costs compared to other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth rates can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although frequently called "hair follicle tests," the actual analysis focuses on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Quinton, OK, is superior to more conventional urine tests due to its enhanced detection accuracy and reliability. Employers and legal bodies favor hair testing because of its long detection window and difficulty to tamper with, offering a more comprehensive view of drug history than urine tests. This method assures precise and trustworthy results, which is critical for effective substance monitoring.

Extended Detection Window

In Quinton, OK, the hair follicle testing method provides a much longer period of detecting drug use, up to 90 days. This extended window allows employers to gain a detailed view of an individual's substance history, compared to the limited short-term detection capabilities of urine tests. As such, hair testing gives a comprehensive understanding of an employee or applicant's long-term drug use patterns.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing performed in Quinton, OK, greatly reduces the potential for sample tampering. The nature of observed collections makes it difficult to alter samples, ensuring credible and uncompromised results. For organizations demanding reliable drug testing outcomes, hair follicle methods establish a trustworthy standard by significantly mitigating the risk of adulteration.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
