Accredited Drug Testing provides extensive hair follicle drug assessments in Southeast Comanche, OK. Should you require a hair-based drug or alcohol evaluation, Accredited Drug Testing excels in this method, with testing locations across the Nation ready to conduct these analyses. Generally, a hair length ranging from 1.5 to 2 inches on the head or body is required. These hair tests can check for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer other tailor-made testing options.

The adoption of hair follicle drug tests has grown in recent times. More employers, legal systems, and Substance Abuse experts are opting for this method instead of traditional urine analysis. Hair follicle tests are favored by employers with zero-tolerance towards drugs, judiciary, and those under probation. The major advantage of hair follicle tests is their extended drug detection window, reaching up to 90 days, conducted under observed circumstances, and proving nearly impossible to tamper with. Nevertheless, for substance use investigation within the recent 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise method.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has gained recognition as a formidable method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair serves as a long-term record of alcohol and substances by capturing biomarkers in the fibers of the hair strand as it grows. When taken near the scalp, hair offers up to around a 3-month detection window for alcohol and drugs. Hair is easy to collect, relatively hard to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 hair strands (equivalent to the diameter of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the ideal amount for screening and confirmation tests. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advised. We suggest measuring the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent amount of body hair may be used. By head hair, we mean scalp hair specifically. Body hair refers to all hair besides scalp hair (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary stages involved in processing a drug test result in a lab are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the initial handling of a sample into the lab’s system. This step includes ensuring that the sample was sealed and transported correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any necessary data entry not supplied by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary rapid check for drugs of abuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient method to exclude drug use for most samples, a positive screen must be verified to be admissible in court. Samples that are presumptively positive in Screening necessitate secondary confirmation.

If a sample is presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is obtained from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. In Extraction, drugs are isolated from hair at a much lower concentration than in other methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most complex methodology to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening results is done using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleaned before confirmation as required. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation per ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter window.
  • Difficulty to cheat: It is extremely challenging to falsify a hair drug test, thus making the results more accurate.
  • Provides historical data: It can chart a pattern of drug use over time, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs take approximately 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests often cost more than other drug testing methods.
  • Result variations: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentration.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests," the test examines the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Southeast Comanche, OK, hair follicle testing outperforms traditional urine tests. Hair testing offers superior detection accuracy and reliability due to its ability to detect drug use over a longer period. Unlike urine tests, hair tests are not affected by recent abstinence, providing a comprehensive look at an individual's substance use history.

Hair testing's longer detection window of up to 90 days makes it a formidable tool against drug use in workplaces. This extended period reduces the likelihood of undetected drug use, giving peace of mind to employers. Additionally, hair tests are less likely to produce false negatives compared to urine tests, ensuring more dependable outcomes.

Extended Detection Window

One of the primary advantages of hair follicle testing in Southeast Comanche, OK, is its extended detection window. Hair tests can trace drug use for up to 90 days, providing employers with a detailed overview of an employee's or applicant’s substance use history. This extended window offers a broader scope of detection compared to shorter-term methods like urine tests.

For employers looking for comprehensive insights into an individual’s drug use, hair follicle tests are invaluable. The ability to detect past drug use over three months creates a complete profile, aiding in informed decision-making. This method ensures a more accurate reflection of an individual's long-term habits.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests significantly mitigate the risk of sample adulteration, providing trustworthy results in Southeast Comanche, OK. The hair testing method is inherently resistant to tampering, making it exceptionally reliable for employers and courts requiring secure test outcomes.

The robustness of hair samples against adulteration ensures that the results are nearly tamper-proof. Unlike urine or other fluid tests, which can be easily modified, the integrity of hair samples remains uncompromised, guaranteeing authentic and incontrovertible results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
