Employment, Court Ordered, Probation, Family

Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug evaluations in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma. If you're seeking a hair-based drug or alcohol examination, our expertise lies in hair analysis, and our centers across all cities nationally are equipped to conduct such tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head's crown or body can be used. Hair analyses cover drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other tailored testing options.

Lately, drug testing procedures have increasingly incorporated hair follicle tests. More employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals now require hair drug tests over the conventional urine tests. Hair follicle evaluations cater to employers with strict drug-free policies, legal bodies, and probation subjects. Their main advantage is a prolonged detection duration for drug use, typically covering up to 90 days, with an observed collection, making them nearly tamper-proof. Yet, for monitoring recent drug use within the past five days, urine tests remain the most precise.

* You must register by phone or online to receive your donor pass/registration prior to proceeding to the testing center. You must bring a valid government issued ID along with the registration/barcode number which was sent to you by email.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as a robust means of detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair serves as a long-term record of alcohol and drug use by capturing biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When obtained near the scalp, hair can offer roughly a three-month detection window for alcohol and drugs. Hair is easy to collect, relatively hard to tamper with, and simple to ship.

A 1.5-inch segment of approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) from closest to the scalp will provide 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample size for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or assessments beyond ten panels, a sample of 150mg is advised. We suggest utilizing a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen. If scalp hair is not available, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. In the context of head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair refers to any other hair type (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four key steps in the lab processing of a drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial incorporation of a sample into the lab’s system. This step includes ensuring that the sample has been sealed and shipped properly, assigning it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of an initial rapid assessment for drug abuse. Although Screening is an economical way to dismiss drug use for most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation for courtroom admissibility. Any samples found presumptively positive during Screening necessitate a secondary confirmation.

If a sample is found presumptively positive during Screening, more hair is drawn from the initial specimen and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at a much lower concentration than in alternative methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most challenging methodology to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screen result is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Prior to confirmation, all presumptive positive samples are washed as necessary. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests which have a shorter detection period.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating a hair drug test is very challenging, thus enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical data: It provides a timeline of drug use over a duration, rather than merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: It takes about 5-7 days for drugs to manifest in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically incur higher costs than other drug testing techniques.
  • Inconsistencies in outcomes: Elements like hair color and personal variations in hair growth can influence the drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Although commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the test itself evaluates the hair strand rather than the scalp-adjacent hair follicle.
