Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Adamsville, Pennsylvania. If you're seeking a hair drug or alcohol test, we excel in this area with testing centers in all cities across the nation that are equipped to perform hair tests. Typically, you need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head's crown or body for testing. This method can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, with options for personalized testing.

In recent years, the preference for conducting drug tests has leaned more towards the hair follicle drug test. This method is increasingly requested by employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals as an alternative to standard urine testing. Employers with stringent no-drug policies, judicial systems, and probationary programs utilize hair follicle testing. One key advantage is its extended detection window for drug use, spanning up to 90 days, with collection under observation, minimizing the possibility of tampering. However, for detecting drug use within a five-day window, urine tests remain highly accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged history of substances by capturing biomarkers within the strands. When taken near the scalp, it can yield up to a 3-month period for identifying drugs and alcohol. Collecting hair is straightforward, relatively tamper-proof, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch portion of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) near the scalp will produce 100mg of hair, the optimum amount for testing and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and evaluations over 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is suggested. We advise measuring the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't available, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. When discussing head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair includes all other hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result involves four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the preliminary processing of a sample in a lab's system. This process confirms the sample was sealed and delivered correctly, allocates a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and concludes any remaining data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening encompasses an initial rapid assessment for illicit substances. Although Screening is a cost-efficient method to eliminate drug use for the majority of samples, a positive screen must be confirmed to be court-viable. All samples that test presumptively positive in Screening require subsequent confirmation.

If the Screening phase results in a presumptively positive sample, extra hair is taken from the original sample for Extraction. During Extraction, drugs are removed from hair at a lesser concentration than other approaches (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging technique to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is achieved via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All samples that test presumptively positive are washed before confirmation if needed. The full lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and accredited to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests which possess a limited detection window.
  • Difficulty to cheat: Hair drug tests are challenging to evade, leading to more precise results.
  • Provides historical data: It can disclose a pattern of drug use over time, rather than simply recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs take about 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests are typically pricier than other testing methods.
  • Variations in results: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can impact the level of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: While often termed "hair follicle tests", the examination itself evaluates the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Adamsville, PA, stands out over traditional urine tests by providing superior accuracy in detecting substances. One of the main advantages is its longer detection period, capturing drug use that urine tests might miss. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
