Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania. Should you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise at Accredited Drug Testing lies in hair analysis, with facilities available across all US cities to conduct these tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is needed from the crown or the body. These tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, among other tailored testing options.

In recent times, drug testing methodologies often incorporate hair follicle tests. Employers, legal systems, and addiction specialists increasingly prefer these over urine tests. Employers with strict anti-drug policies, judicial authorities, and those on probation benefit from hair follicle tests. The key advantage is a substantially longer detection window, usually up to 90 days, collected under supervised conditions, making deception nearly impossible. For drug use within the past five days, urine tests remain the most precise option.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as a strong resource for spotting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair strands archive a prolonged history of drug and alcohol presence by encasing biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When procured near the scalp, hair offers up to approximately a 3-month detection scope for alcohol and other substances. Hair is straightforward to gather, somewhat hard to tamper with, and simple to ship.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with about 200 hair strands (about the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is the ideal sample for both screening and confirmation. For EtG addition, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We suggest weighing the hair sample on a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be unavailable, a comparable amount of body hair is collectable. When mentioning head hair, it specifically pertains to scalp hair. Body hair denotes all other varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four crucial steps involved in managing a lab drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the initial handling of a sample into a lab’s system, this contains verifying that the sample’s seal and shipment are secure, assigning a novel LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any outstanding data entry not provided via an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of a preliminary quick inspection for drugs of abuse. Though Screening is an economic method to rule out drug usage in the majority of samples, an affirmative screen must be confirmed to be court-admissible. Samples presumptively positive in Screening necessitate a secondary confirmation.

Should a specimen be presumptively positive during the Screening step, extra hair is sourced from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. At this point, drugs are extracted from hair at a much lower concentration than with other methods (like urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is the most intricate method to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screen result is implemented via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive specimen undergo washing before confirmation as needed. This comprehensive lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection span: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage up to 90 days, relative to urine tests which provide a shorter detection period.
  • Challenge to falsify: It is exceedingly arduous to deceive a hair drug test, ensuring more precise outcomes.
  • Yields historical insights: It can manifest a pattern of drug usage over time as opposed to merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of identifying recent consumption: It generally needs 5-7 days for drugs to become noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be more costly than other drug testing methods.
  • Outcome variations: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth variations can influence the concentration of drug metabolites within the hair.

Note: Though commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis is on the hair strand and not the follicle under the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing testing methods in Delaware Water Gap, PA, hair follicle testing excels over urine testing due to superior detection accuracy. Hair tests have become the preferred choice for employers seeking reliable insights into drug use. Unlike urine tests, which can miss recent or lingering use, hair tests provide a comprehensive view of an individual's history, detecting substance use over an extensive period with accuracy.

Hair follicle tests in Delaware Water Gap offer a more reliable evaluation of long-term drug use. While urine tests might suffice for short-term detection, hair testing's superior accuracy captures a broader timeframe. This superior detection capability allows for more accurate screening, ensuring that employers receive a clear perspective on an individual's substance history, enhancing workplace safety and reliability.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Delaware Water Gap, PA offers an unparalleled detection window, capturing drug use over a period of up to 90 days. This extensive detection timeframe provides employers a vivid snapshot of a subject's substance history beyond what traditional tests like urine can reveal. The ability to trace usage history contributes to a robust understanding of an individual's behavioral patterns.

Employers benefit significantly from the extended detection capabilities hair tests offer. Delving deeper into an individual's drug use history, these tests ensure decisions are made on a solid foundation of extensive and accurate information. The added advantage of this longer detection window is substantial for those keen to uphold drug-free policies.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Delaware Water Gap, PA provides a robust solution to ensure sample integrity. This testing method is notably tamper-resistant, significantly minimizing the risks associated with sample adulteration. Consequently, it offers discernible and unassailable results, making it a reliable choice for robust drug testing protocols.

The inherent nature of hair testing makes it nearly invulnerable to common tampering tactics that plague other testing methods. This reliability enhances its credibility and positions it as an indispensable tool in both workplace and legal settings. The confidence imparted by these reliable results offers peace of mind for all stakeholders involved in the testing process.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
