Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Fogelsville, Pennsylvania. For those requiring drug or alcohol screening via hair samples, we offer specialized hair testing. We have centers across all cities Nationwide capable of this test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body are required. Hair tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other specialized testing options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug tests have increasingly become a preferred method for drug screenings. Employers, courts, and substance abuse experts often choose hair tests over traditional urine tests. This preference is due to the longer detection window of hair tests, which can detect drug use for up to 90 days. The observed collection process makes cheating nearly impossible. For recent drug use, within five days, urine tests remain the most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now acknowledged as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol use. Hair captures a historical record of alcohol and other drugs by trapping biomarkers within the fiber of the growing hair shaft. When collected close to the head, hair can offer up to about a three-month detection timeline for alcohol and other substances. Hair sampling is straightforward, relatively challenging to tamper with, and simple for shipment.

A 1.5-inch strand sample comprising approximately 200 hairs (comparable to the girth of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the optimal quantity for both screening and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or assessments beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest measuring the hair on a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be unavailable, an equivalent amount of body hair may be gathered. In the context of head hair, we refer exclusively to scalp hair. Body hair implies all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory procession of a drug test outcome comprises four principal stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the initial integration of a sample into a lab’s system. This process verifies the sample was appropriately sealed and dispatched, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any supplementary data input not serviced by an electronic custody chain system.

Screening performs an initial brief assessment for drugs of concern. While Screening is an economical avenue to exclude substance use in most samples, a positive Screening demands subsequent confirmation for court admissibility. Any samples indicating presumptive positivity at Screening require secondary verification.

Should a sample exhibit presumptive positivity during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and prepped for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are drawn from hair at a considerably lower concentration than seen in other approaches (e.g., urine or oral fluid), contributing to the complexity of hair drug examination.

Positive screening results undergo Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive specimens are cleansed pre-confirmation as necessary. The full laboratory cycle from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeline: Hair drug assessments can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which feature a briefer detection span.
  • Difficult to falsify: It is extremely hard to deceive a hair drug test, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Supplies historical insight: It offers a record of drug use over time, as opposed to recent utilization only.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of spotting recent consumption: Drugs take roughly 5-7 days to become discernible in hair.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug assessments are pricier than other drug testing methodologies.
  • Result variability: Factors such as hair hue and personal hair growth differences can impact drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Though often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand rather than the follicle below the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Fogelsville, PA, hair follicle testing surpasses urine tests. Its superior accuracy offers greater reliability, crucial for employers enforcing strict drug policies. Hair tests can detect drug use in a wider window, providing more insight than traditional methods.

Comparatively, hair tests provide a broader scope of detection, giving employers a comprehensive view of substance use history. Unlike urine tests, hair assessments remain harder to manipulate, ensuring authenticity.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Fogelsville, PA reflects a more extended detection window. With the ability to trace drug usage over 90 days, it offers employers a deeper understanding of an individual's history with substances.

This method's expansive detection period stands in stark contrast to traditional approaches. Employers benefit from insights that cover months, not days, ensuring informed decisions regarding employee or applicant history.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The integrity of hair follicle tests in Fogelsville, PA, diminishes the likelihood of tampering. The method ensures genuine results that stakeholders can rely upon, reducing potential manipulation seen in other testing forms.

By using hair samples, this testing approach significantly strengthens the evidence's credibility. A hard-to-falsify process makes hair tests the gold standard for authentic, trusted drug screening results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
