Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle analysis for substances in West Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. If you require a drug or alcohol screening using hair samples, Accredited Drug Testing is your specialist, with centers established in cities across the nation to conduct these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is required. Hair exams can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other custom configurations.

Recently, hair follicle testing has become an increasingly popular method for substance screening. Various employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts now prefer hair analysis over conventional urine testing. Hair tests are chosen by organizations with strict no-drug policies, legal entities, and individuals on probation. The main advantage is a much longer detection window, up to 90 days, securely collected and notably difficult to tamper with. However, for detecting drug use within the last five days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has gained recognition as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged history of alcohol and drug intake by capturing biomarkers in the strands of growing hair. When taken from near the scalp, it can offer an approximately three-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. Hair is easy to collect, tough to tamper with, and convenient to ship.

A 1.5-inch sample consisting of about 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil in size) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the perfect sample size for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests over 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. It is recommended to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is absent, a similar amount of body hair can be used. In reference to head hair, it pertains solely to scalp hair. Body hair denotes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The core steps in the laboratory handling of a drug test outcome include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Verification.

Accessioning is the commencement phase where a sample is introduced into a laboratory's system. This phase ensures the sample was sealed and transported properly, allocates a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data input not facilitated by an electronic custody system.

Screening provides an initial rapid assessment for drug misuse. Although it is a cost-efficient approach to exclude drug presence in most samples, confirming a positive screen is crucial for legal acceptability. Any samples that preliminarily test positive during Screening will require a follow-up confirmation.

If a sample tests preliminarily positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and organized for Extraction. This stage involves extracting drugs from hair in significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing the most complex method to execute.

Verification of any positive screening result is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples testing preliminarily positive are washed before verification as needed. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Verification adheres to both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and conforms to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection duration: Hair drug assessments can detect drug usage for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which feature a shorter detection span.
  • Hard to manipulate: It is notably tough to deceive a hair drug test, rendering the results more precise.
  • Offers historical insight: It can outline a pattern of drug consumption over time instead of just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Poor for detecting recent usage: It requires around 5-7 days for drugs to become noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments are typically pricier than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Aspects such as hair color and individual growth discrepancies can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Though frequently termed "hair follicle tests", the assessment targets the hair strand itself and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In West Elizabeth, PA, hair follicle testing trumps urine testing due to its superior detection abilities. Hair tests have a prolonged detection window, identifying drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which only reflect recent use. This makes hair testing more effective for understanding long-term substance patterns, especially essential for employers maintaining no-tolerance policies.

Hair follicle tests offer unparalleled reliability in West Elizabeth, PA. Unlike urine tests, which are susceptible to methods of deception, hair analysis ensures robust security throughout the testing process. This level of analysis provides precise historical insight into substance use, making hair testing a preferred choice for those seeking comprehensive drug testing solutions.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing boasts an expanded detection window compared to other methods in West Elizabeth, PA. It can reveal substance intake spanning up to 90 days, thus offering employers a thorough perspective on an individual's substance history. This extensive window is advantageous for making informed decisions about current and future employees.

With its capacity to track drug use over an extended time, hair follicle testing in West Elizabeth, PA stands out for its thoroughness. By covering up to three months of substance use, employers gain detailed insights into patterns of behavior. This makes hair testing particularly useful over urine tests for evaluating long-term habits and maintaining workplace integrity.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The hair follicle test is a pivotal, tamper-proof solution in West Elizabeth, PA. Known for its robust resistance to tampering, this method ensures the integrity of samples. Unlike urine tests, which are more susceptible to adulteration, hair testing provides reliable, unquestionable results, instilling confidence in those requiring accurate substance use assessment.

In West Elizabeth, PA, hair follicle drug tests significantly reduce the risk of adulteration, offering near-foolproof security. The method’s resilience ensures sample authenticity, preventing common tampering tactics possible with urine tests. Employers and authorities can rely on this meticulous method for definitive, credible drug testing results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
