This process includes checking the sample seal and shipment correctness, assigning it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and inputting any extra details not available in an electronic chain of custody record.

For samples that test presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the primary sample and readied for Extraction. To confirm any positive screening findings, GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS techniques are employed. All samples indicating presumptive positives undergo cleansing before confirmation as necessary. The entire lab procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is overseen following both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair guidelines and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.
