In Boiling Springs, South Carolina, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug tests. Whether you require testing for drugs or alcohol, our expertise lies in delivering accurate hair analyses. Nationwide, our centers facilitate these services. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is needed from the head or body. Our tests detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and feature bespoke analysis options.

Recently, hair follicle testing has become more common in the domain of drug testing. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals increasingly prefer hair tests over traditional urine tests due to their precision. Ideal for zero-tolerance workplaces and legal supervision, hair tests cover a detection span of up to 90 days. Despite its accuracy lag within five days, urine testing remains viable.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now regarded as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a prolonged record of substance use by embedding biomarkers within its strands as it grows. A sample obtained close to the scalp can offer a detection period of approximately three months for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively tamper-proof, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch snippet consisting of roughly 200 hairs (similar to a #2 pencil thickness) from the scalp yields 100mg of hair, ideal for both screening and confirmatory purposes. For EtG tests, extras, or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg sample is preferable. It is advised to measure the sample's weight using a jeweler’s scale. In the absence of scalp hair, a comparable amount of body hair can be collected. When mentioning head hair, it specifically refers to scalp hair. Body hair includes other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

There are four primary stages in the laboratory process for drug test results: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning comprises the initial steps of integrating a sample into a lab’s system, ensuring correct sealing and shipping of the sample, allotting a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any missing data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers an initial rapid test to check for drug presence. Although cost-effective for dismissing drug use in most samples, any positive result must be verified to be valid in a legal setting. Samples identified as presumptively positive during Screening must undergo further confirmation.

In case of a presumptively positive result in Screening, more hair is taken from the original sample for the Extraction phase. Here, drugs are separated from hair at much reduced concentrations compared to methods like urine or oral fluid tests, making hair drug testing particularly challenging to execute.

Positive results in initial screening are verified through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Any presumptive positive samples are meticulously cleaned before confirmation when necessary. The entire processing sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use up to 90 days prior, in contrast to urine tests with shorter detection times.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating on a hair drug test is notably difficult, ensuring more accurate outcomes.
  • Reflects historical patterns: It can depict a timeline of substance use, beyond just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Drugs become identifiable in hair only after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically pricier than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and personal hair growth patterns can influence drug metabolite concentrations in the hair.

Note: Commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis is performed on the hair strand, not the follicle under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Boiling Springs, SC, hair follicle testing trumps urine testing by offering extended detection periods. While urine tests are limited in detecting very recent usage, hair tests provide a testament to substance history for up to 90 days. This extensive detection window grants employers confidence in making informed hiring decisions, surpassing traditional urine tests in scope.
This reach empowers policy enforcement.

For a comprehensive view of substance use, hair follicle testing is unbeatable. Compared to urine tests, hair samples reveal patterns of use rather than immediate intoxication. This distinction is significant for organizations in Boiling Springs, proud to deliver consistent enforcement of their drug-free work policies.
Employers benefit from this nuanced clarity.

Extended Detection Window

With hair follicle testing in Boiling Springs, SC, organizations gain insights into substance use over an extensive window of up to 90 days. This long detection span ensures employers have a full picture of an employee's substance habits. Such detailed histories facilitate informed recruitment and retention decisions, exploring beyond temporary abstinence.
The broad detection secures workplace integrity.

Employers in Boiling Springs appreciate that hair testing's extended detection window reveals a more accurate history of substance use. Unlike other methods, it offers a long-term perspective, covering up to three months. This depth helps employers confirm that employees maintain a consistent drug-free lifestyle, enhancing workplace safety.
Such assurances uphold organizational ideals.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Boiling Springs, SC benefits from hair follicle testing's resistance to tampering, a safeguard ensuring trustworthy results. With observed collection procedures, the integrity of each sample remains intact. Employers find solace in these secure methods, reducing the risk of adulterated samples and guaranteeing the results’ credibility.
This advantage is pivotal for policy enforcement.

Hair follicle tests, renowned for their tamper-proof nature, minimize the risk of subterfuge. In Boiling Springs, SC, employers trust these methods to deliver authentic results, free of interference. This confidence stems from both the secure collection process and the durable sample medium.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
