Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Liberty, South Carolina. For individuals in need of a hair drug or alcohol screening, Accredited Drug Testing focuses on hair analysis, with laboratories across all cities Nationwide ready to conduct such tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or other body parts are required. Hair analysis can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, among other tailored hair testing solutions.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has become more prevalent in drug testing procedures. Employer policies, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts are increasingly favoring hair drug tests over conventional urine tests. Zero-tolerance employers, courts, or those on parole, root for hair follicle drug tests because they boast an extended detection window for substance use of up to 90 days, involve a supervised sample collection, and are almost infallible against manipulation. Nonetheless, to verify drug use within the preceding 5 days, urine tests remain unparalleled in accuracy.

What it is, How it works

The utilization of hair testing has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged history of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When hair is collected near the scalp, it offers a detection period of up to roughly three months for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, moderately resistant to tampering, and easy to transport.

A hair sample measuring 1.5 inches long with around 200 strands (similar to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp is enough to provide 100mg, which is the ideal amount for analysis and verification. For EtG assessments, supplementary tests, and/or evaluations beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is suggested. It is advisable to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If head hair cannot be obtained, a comparable quantity of body hair can be used. Head hair is exclusively from the scalp, while body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The lab processing for drug test outcomes follows four essential steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial processing of the sample within a lab's system. This step ensures the sample has been sealed, shipped correctly, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any additional data entry that an electronic chain of custody may not cover.

Screening offers a preliminary examination for substance abuse. While screening provides a budget-friendly means to dismiss drug use for most samples, a screen that returns positive necessitates confirmation for court admissibility. Any sample with a positive Screening outcome requires further verification.

Should a sample indicate a presumptive positive in the Screening phase, an extra portion of hair from the initial sample is utilized for Extraction. This phase involves extracting drugs from hair at markedly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), highlighting why hair drug testing is a challenging methodology.

Any positive result from the Screening stage is confirmed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation when necessary. The whole laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests detect substance use up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests that have a reduced detection timeline.
  • Minimal risk of tampering: Cheating in hair drug tests is highly challenging, enhancing result reliability.
  • Historical consumption data: It supplies a pattern of substance use over time, offering a broader history beyond immediate consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days post-consumption.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than alternative testing methods.
  • Result variability: Factors such as hair color and individual growth rates can influence the drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although often labeled as "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand, not the sub-dermal hair follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing surpasses urine tests in Liberty, SC with superior detection capability. Accuracy is bolstered over traditional urine testing, providing reliable results essential for maintaining safe workplaces.

In contrast, urine tests have a limited detection period. Reliability of hair analysis offers an expansive view over longer periods, proving indispensable for comprehensive drug use tracking.

Extended Detection Window

In Liberty, SC, the hair follicle test offers an extensive detection window of up to 90 days, effectively unveiling an individual's drug history. This aspect is crucial for employers aiming to understand the substance use patterns comprehensively.

Employers find this longer detection period instrumental in making strategic hiring decisions, offering a clear perspective on an applicant's past activities, often overlooked by other testing methods.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
