Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug analysis in Promised Land, South Carolina. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing offers specialized hair testing with facilities in all cities across the nation capable of conducting hair tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head crown or body can be used. Hair samples can be evaluated for substances such as drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored hair testing options.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become a prevalent method for drug screening. This test is now preferred by many employers, courts, and substance abuse experts over the routine urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, legal authorities, and probation officers increasingly rely on it. The main advantage lies in its extended drug detection period, often up to 90 days, alongside an observed sample collection that is almost foolproof. However, urine tests remain most accurate for drug use detection within the immediate past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. It offers a prolonged record of substance use due to the presence of biomarkers within the hair’s fibers. When collected near the scalp, hair can reveal a drug and alcohol usage history for up to roughly 90 days. Collecting hair is straightforward, tampering is challenging, and shipping is hassle-free.

A 1.5-inch portion, consisting of 200 strands (similar volume to a #2 pencil) from near the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is optimal for testing. For EtG, additional screenings, or tests beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. Utilize a jeweler’s scale for accurate measurement. If scalp hair is unavailable, collect an equivalent amount of body hair. 'Head hair' specifically refers to scalp hair, while 'body hair' includes all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The processing of a drug test result involves four essential steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, the sample undergoes initial processing into the lab’s system. This process verifies proper sealing and shipping, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes additional data entry not captured by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening provides a preliminary check for drug presence. This economical approach can rule out drug usage in most samples; however, any positive screens necessitate confirmation for court acceptability. Samples that are positive during Screening require further verification.

Should Screening indicate a presumptive positive, more hair is extracted from the original specimen for Extraction. This step retrieves drugs from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (like urine or oral fluid), thus making hair drug testing the most complex technique.

Confirmation of positive results is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positives undergo washing as needed before confirmation. The entire laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is conducted under CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Detects drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter windows.
  • Difficulty to cheat: Cheating a hair drug test is almost impossible, leading to more reliable results.
  • Provides historical data: Shows patterns of drug use over time, rather than just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Cost: Generally more costly than other drug testing methods.
  • Variations in results: Factors such as hair color and growth variations can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Though often termed "hair follicle tests", these tests analyze the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Promised Land, SC Hair follicle testing stands out due to its superior capability to detect drug use over an extended period, surpassing the limitations of urine testing. The enhanced detection window offered by hair tests, reaching up to 90 days, provides employers and authorities with a more thorough understanding of an individual's substance use history. Moreover, hair tests are less prone to tampering, ensuring a higher level of reliability and accuracy compared to traditional urine tests.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Promised Land, SC One of the major advantages of hair follicle testing is its extended detection period, which can cover up to 90 days. This feature provides employers with a comprehensive view of an applicant's or employee's substance use history. A longer detection window means that temporary abstention cannot mask past drug use, offering a true representation of an individual’s habits. This allows for more informed decision-making and robust hiring practices.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
