Here, drugs are retrieved from hair at a significantly reduced concentration than with other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), rendering hair drug analysis the most challenging method to execute.
Every positive Screening outcome is confirmed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All tentatively positive specimens are cleansed prior to confirmation as deemed necessary. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes scrutiny under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and holds accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

The legal framework surrounding hair testing and the achievement of guidelines to ensure fairness, accuracy, and confidentiality in drug testing practices have also been discussed,and the SoHT consensus on general hair testing and testing for drugs of abuse was presented at the meeting and published as a Letter to the Editor.
