Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Big Rock, Tennessee. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing specializes in hair analysis with testing centers in cities Nationwide ready to perform your hair test. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown of your head or body can be used. Hair tests can evaluate for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be tailored to other needs.

Over recent years, drug testing methods increasingly favor hair follicle analyses. Many employers, court systems, and Substance Abuse professionals opt for hair drug tests instead of the standard urine tests. Hair follicle drug testing is favored by employers with strict drug-free policies, the judicial system, and probation services. Its main advantage lies in a longer detection window—up to 90 days, observed during collection, and extremely difficult to manipulate. For drug use detected within the last 5 days, urine remains the most precise test.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol usage. Hair captures a prolonged record of alcohol and drug presence by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When sourced from near the scalp, hair can offer up to about a 3-month detection range for substances. Hair is straightforward to gather, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) next to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for examination and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or analyses beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We suggest assessing the sample's weight on a precision scale. If scalp hair isn't available, an equal volume of body hair can be collected. When mentioning head hair, we are specifically referring to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary phases in the laboratory handling of a drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial integration of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This process verifies proper sealing and dispatch of the sample, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any supplementary data input not supplied by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of a prompt preliminary assessment for drug abuse. While Screening is a budget-friendly strategy to dismiss drug use in most samples, a positive screening must be verified to be valid in legal proceedings. Any samples that are presumptively positive in Screening do require a secondary confirmation.

If a sample is tentatively positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the initial specimen and readied for Extraction. In this stage, substances are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other procedures (e.g., urine or saliva), making hair drug screening the most challenging technique to carry out.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are washed before Confirmation as necessary. The comprehensive laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests, which have a shorter detection span.
  • Difficulty to cheat: It is exceedingly difficult to deceive a hair drug test, increasing the accuracy of the results.
  • Provides historical data: It can illustrate a pattern of drug use over time, not just immediate use.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: It takes roughly 5-7 days for drugs to manifest in hair.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other drug testing approaches.
  • Variations in results: Factors such as hair color and individual differences in hair growth can impact the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the examination itself analyzes the hair strand, not the hair follicle under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why choose hair follicle testing over the more traditional urine tests in Big Rock, TN? Simply put, hair tests offer superior accuracy and reliability. They capture drug usage patterns over a longer timeframe, offering a dependable alternative to the limited range of urine tests. Where urine might overlook, hair excels—ensuring nothing slips through the cracks.

Employers and authorities alike find greater confidence in hair testing. With nearly impossible tampering, it becomes a trusted source of truth. While urine tests cover recent use, hair follicle testing discusses a larger narrative, making it an ideal choice for those in search of comprehensive substance history.

Extended Detection Window

In Big Rock, TN, hair follicle testing highlights a significant advantage: an extended detection window that spans up to 90 days. Such a lengthy period allows employers to gain a comprehensive understanding of an individual's substance history, offering a broader view than traditional methods. This expansive detection can identify consistent patterns of use, offering critical insights.

By utilizing this prolonged detection capability, employers effectively trace an employee or candidate’s history, ensuring informed decisions. Unlike shorter-span tests, hair samples provide a robust framework to evaluate long-term drug use, preventing potential risks by showcasing past habits that might affect future performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
