Accredited Drug Testing offers extensive hair follicle drug testing services in Granville, Tennessee. For those in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing excels in this area and maintains testing centers nationwide capable of conducting hair tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is required. Hair testing can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored options.
Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become more prevalent in screening methods. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals often opt for hair tests over urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, judicial systems, and probation departments favor these tests due to their extended detection period, capturing up to 90 days of drug use, collected under supervision, and nearly foolproof. However, urine tests remain the most accurate for detecting drug use within the last 5 days.

When you're searching for hair drug testing near me or hair drug testing locations, we provide a simple and convenient process to find a drug and alcohol testing location near you that is certified to provide all of your drug and alcohol testing needs.
Hair testing has emerged as a potent method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a lengthy record of alcohol and other drugs by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When taken near the scalp, hair samples can offer approximately a 3-month detection period for alcohol and other drugs. Hair is easy to collect, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.
A 1.5-inch hair sample consisting of about 200 strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) from the scalp delivers 100mg of hair, which is the perfect amount for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, it is advised to use 150mg of the specimen. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen. If scalp hair is unavailable, an equivalent amount of body hair can be used. When mentioning head hair, we only mean scalp hair. Body hair refers to any other hair types (e.g., facial, axillary).
Process Overview
The four key phases in laboratory processing of a drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning includes the initial integration of a sample into a lab’s system, confirming the sample's seals and shipping accuracy, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data entry not handled by an electronic chain of custody system.
Screening provides a preliminary check for drug abuse. Although Screening is an economical method to eliminate drug usage in the majority of samples, a positive screen must be verified to be legally defensible. Any samples that show presumptive positive results in Screening require secondary confirmation.
If a sample appears presumptively positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the original specimen for preparation in the Extraction phase. Here, drugs are drawn from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is considered the most challenging methodology to execute.
Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is achieved through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The entire lab procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is assessed by the standards of both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Note: Although commonly referred to as "hair follicle tests," the analysis is performed on the hair strand and not the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

It served as a prominent platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, facilitating groundbreaking advancements in hair testing and analysis. In this special issue of Drug Testing and Analysis, we aim to showcase the remarkable manuscripts presented at this significant event, shedding light on the latest research and highlighting the future directions in this field.
Novel Analytical Techniques: The Verona meeting witnessed the unveiling of cutting-edge analytical techniques, offering enhanced sensitivity, selectivity, and accuracy for drug testing. Remarkable advancements in sample preparation, detection, and identification of drug compounds have been presented. The manuscripts in this section presented novel approaches, such as multianalyte methods and on-line preparation which can enable rapid analysis and improve thorough forensic investigations.
Biomarkers and Pharmacokinetics: The identification and validation of reliable biomarkers and pharmacokinetic studies are fundamental aspects of drug testing and analysis. The impact of hair treatments on the oxidation/decomposition of drugs in hair was also explored, as the long-term fate of drugs incorporated in the keratin matrix. Furthermore, the SoHT meeting in Verona featured research on the identification and quantification of alcohol abuse biomarkers, their stability, and their correlation with exposure and other biomarkers.
Forensic Applications and Interpretation: One of the vital objectives of hair testing is its application in forensic investigations and legal proceedings. The SoHT meeting in Verona emphasized the significance of rigorous interpretation of analytical results and the need for standardized protocols. Manuscripts in this section present advancements in forensic toxicology, and have explored the challenges posed by emerging designer drugs and strategies to combat their proliferation. The pitfalls encountered when the exogenous/endogenous nature of a substance is questioned were presented and discussed. The special issue presents also manuscripts that delve into the ethical implications of drug testing in drug facilitated sexual assaults.
Clinical Applications of hair testing are witnessed by the insight on environmental tobacco smoke exposure, assessed by hair analysis in a population of students and the study of in utero-exposure to drugs of abuse through neonatal hair analysis. Exposure to drugs was also important in cases of child abuse/neglect, when the clinical purpose of hair testing merge with its forensic applications.
The legal framework surrounding hair testing and the achievement of guidelines to ensure fairness, accuracy, and confidentiality in drug testing practices have also been discussed, and the SoHT consensus on general hair testing and testing for drugs of abuse was presented at the meeting and published as a Letter to the Editor.
