Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Kimmins, Tennessee. Should you require a test for drugs or alcohol, our expertise lies in hair testing, with facilities Nationwide equipped to conduct such tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your scalp or body is needed. These tests can check for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing solutions.

In the last few years, drug testing methods have increasingly turned to hair follicle tests. Many employers, the judicial system, and substance abuse experts now opt for hair testing over traditional urine tests. These tests aid employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probation officers. A significant advantage of this method is its extended detection time of up to 90 days. It ensures an observed, nearly tamper-proof collection. If testing for drug use in the recent 5 days, urine testing remains the optimal method.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. The hair captures a timeline of substance use by holding biomarkers within its fibers as it grows. When taken near the scalp, hair can offer an alcohol and drug detection period of up to about 90 days. Collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of roughly 200 hairs (approximately equal to a #2 pencil’s thickness) near the scalp yields 100mg, the optimal amount for both screening and validation. For EtG additions and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is advisable. It’s best to weigh the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn’t available, a comparable quantity of body hair can be used. When we mention head hair, we mean only scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (face, underarm, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing for drug test results follows four main stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial handling of a sample within a lab’s system. It includes ensuring the sample’s proper sealing and shipment, generating a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishing any extra data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody.

Screening offers an immediate assessment for substances of abuse. While cost-effective for ruling out drug use in most samples, any positive screen must be validated for legal-admissibility. Samples presumed positive in Screening need secondary confirmation.

Once a sample tests presumptively positive during Screening, more hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at much lower concentrations than other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug analysis the toughest to perform.

Confirmation of positive outcomes is achieved through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples presumed positive undergo washing before confirmation as needed. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and adherence to the ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, compared to urine tests, which have a shorter detection duration.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely tough, thus the results are highly accurate.
  • Provides historical insight: It can outline a drug use pattern over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs typically become detectable in hair after 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are usually more costly than other drug testing approaches.
  • Result variations: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although frequently called "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Superiority of Hair Follicle Testing Over Urine Testing in Kimmins, TN

Hair follicle tests boast superior accuracy and durability compared to urine tests. In Kimmins, TN, they provide a more extended detection period, offering insights into drug use over the past 90 days, unlike the more limited scope of urine tests. The results' reliability and the difficulty in altering samples make hair testing a valued tool for thorough substance use examination.

Extended Detection Window

Longer Detection Windows in Kimmins, TN

The distinctive advantage of hair follicle testing is its long-term detection window, spanning up to three months. Employers in Kimmins, TN, benefit from this extensive view, gaining insights into potential substance use and offering a fuller picture of an individual’s habits. This long detection window assures employers of a comprehensive analysis that short-term tests can't match.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Proof Testing in Kimmins, TN

Hair follicle tests in Kimmins, TN excel in integrity, minimizing the risk of tampering. The collection method ensures that samples remain adulteration-free, providing unquestionable results. This makes hair testing a reliable and robust choice for detecting substance use, as it circumvents common manipulation methods that might affect the credibility of test outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
