Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle testing services in Mascot, Tennessee. For those requiring hair drug or alcohol tests, our company excels in this area, with testing centers situated in all cities across the nation equipped to conduct these tests. Ideally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair should be available on your crown or body for testing. Analysis can include drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored hair testing solutions.

Recently, the trend in drug testing methods has shifted towards hair follicle drug tests. This method is increasingly preferred by employers, legal authorities, and substance abuse professionals as an alternative to conventional urine tests. Hair follicle tests are favored by organizations with strict anti-drug policies, legal systems, and probation services. The main advantage is its extended detection window, up to 90 days, collected via a monitored process, making it nearly foolproof. Despite this, urine tests remain the most reliable for detecting drug use within the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended record of alcohol and drug intake by embedding biomarkers in the strands of hair as it grows. When collected near the scalp, it can offer an approximately 3-month detection range for alcohol and drugs. Hair sample collection is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and easy to send.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hairs (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp yields 100mg, the perfect specimen for both screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is advised. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale for weighing is suggested. If scalp hair can't be obtained, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. “Head hair” specifies scalp hair exclusively. “Body hair” encompasses other kinds of hair (beard, underarm, etc.).

Process Overview

The drug test process in a lab comprises four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, a sample is preliminarily processed into the lab's system. This step ensures the sample was sealed and transported correctly, assigns it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any needed data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody.

Screening conducts an initial scan for drugs of abuse. This economical method helps exclude drug use in most instances, yet requires confirmation for any positives to be valid legally. Samples that are tentatively positive need subsequent confirmation.

Should Screening indicate a provisional positive, extra hair is obtained from the initial sample for Extraction. In Extraction, drugs are isolated from hair at lower concentrations than other methods like urine or oral fluid, making hair testing particularly challenging.

Positive results in Screening are verified through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All preliminarily positive samples are cleansed prior to confirmation as necessary. Each stage from Accessioning to Confirmation is reviewed in accordance with both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can trace drug usage up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter periods.
  • Hard to deceive: Tampering with hair tests is difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Tracks historical usage: It can reveal drug consumption patterns over time, not just recent activities.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent intake: Drugs become traceable in hair roughly 5-7 days post-use.
  • Expense: Hair testing tends to be pricier than other methods.
  • Result variability: Hair color and growth differences may influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Commonly labeled as "hair follicle tests," the testing is conducted on the hair strand itself, not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why does hair follicle testing surpass traditional urine tests in Mascot, TN? The answer lies in its superior detection accuracy and reliability. Hair tests track substance use over extended periods, providing a comprehensive overview unmatched by urine tests, which often have shorter detection windows. The precision of hair testing offers a more accurate assessment, benefiting both employers and individuals seeking detailed substance use information.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window in a hair follicle test in Mascot, TN, provides a significant advantage. Unlike traditional methods, hair testing can identify drug use over a 90-day period. This allows employers and agencies to gain a thorough understanding of an individual’s substance usage history, offering insights that shorter-term tests cannot provide.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Mascot, TN, stands out due to its tamper-resistant nature. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
