Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing solutions across Sequatchie Valley, Tennessee. Specializing in hair drug and alcohol testing, we operate testing centers in various cities nationwide ready to conduct hair tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is needed from your head or body. Tests detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and can be tailored for other specific testing needs.

Lately, hair follicle drug testing has become a more common choice over traditional urine testing. Employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals are increasingly opting for hair tests due to their zero-tolerance policies. The key advantage of hair tests lies in its extended detection period of up to 90 days. Sample collection is supervised, making it almost impossible to manipulate. However, for recent drug use, within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. It captures a prolonged record of alcohol along with other substances by embedding biomarkers within the hair shaft as it grows. Collected near the head, hair samples offer an approximate 3-month timeframe for detecting alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches of roughly 200 hair strands (similar to a #2 pencil thickness) closest to the scalp produces 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for testing and verification. For EtG, additional requests, or assessments exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is suggested. We advise using a jeweler's scale for accuracy. If scalp hair is unavailable, a comparable body hair sample can be utilized. "Head hair" refers solely to scalp hair, while "body hair" encompasses other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary stages in processing a drug test result in the lab are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary handling of a sample within the lab's system. This phase checks if the sample is sealed and transported properly, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any further data input absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary assessment for substance abuse. Although Screening is cost-effective for negating drug presence in most cases, confirmed positive results are necessary for legal evidence. Samples with presumptive positive results in Screening require a confirmatory test.

If the Screening phase yields a presumptive positive, additional hair from the original sample is processed for Extraction. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at lower concentrations than in other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most challenging technique.

Confirmation for any positive screening is done via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positives undergo washing before confirmation as needed. The entire lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and ISO / IEC 17025 accredited standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can trace drug usage for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have limited detection periods.
  • Low potential for fraud: Cheating a hair drug test is highly challenging, ensuring accuracy in results.
  • Historical consumption record: It highlights drug usage trends over time, beyond recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot trace recent consumption: Detection in hair occurs approximately 5-7 days post-use.
  • Expense: Hair tests typically incur higher costs than alternative drug testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual growth diversity can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Though frequently called "hair follicle tests", the procedure evaluates the hair shaft and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Sequatchie Valley, TN, hair follicle testing is increasingly outperforming urine testing in drug detection. The principal advantage is the longer detection window and superior accuracy. Unlike urine tests, hair tests are not easily tampered with. This reliability persuades employers seeking exact results. Compared to urine tests, hair testing offers an exceptional detection period of up to 90 days, ensuring trustworthy outcomes.

When comparing hair follicle and urine drug tests, the benefits of hair analysis are clear. Hair testing in Sequatchie Valley offers heightened detection accuracy, making it a stronger deterrent against substance misuse. The precision of hair tests is invaluable for employers keen on enforcing zero-tolerance policies.

Extended Detection Window

In Sequatchie Valley, TN, hair follicle testing provides an extended detection window of up to 90 days. This prolonged timeframe offers employers a comprehensive review of any substance use within a substantial period. The capacity to capture drug use over months as opposed to days, as seen with urine tests, grants employers a profound understanding of an applicant's or employee's substance history.

A distinctive advantage of hair follicle tests is their capacity to detect drug use over an extended period. This makes it a valuable tool in Sequatchie Valley, TN, where having a full view of an individual's substance use history significantly aids decision-making processes. Employers gain better insight into a candidate's or employee's lifestyle choices through this extensive detection window.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
