Employment, Court Ordered, Probation, Family

In Tallassee, Tennessee, Accredited Drug Testing offers extensive hair follicle drug testing services. Specializing in hair testing for drugs or alcohol, we operate testing centers nationwide, making it convenient to conduct hair tests anywhere. A hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches is typically required for testing from the head or body. Our hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and can be customized for other substances.

The hair follicle drug test has become a favored method in recent years for drug screening. Unlike standard urine tests, many employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals are opting for hair drug tests. These tests serve those with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and probationers. A key benefit of hair tests is their extended detection window, usually up to 90 days, with collection that is closely monitored and difficult to tamper with, making them more reliable than urine tests for recent drug use detection.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as a robust means for identifying alcohol and drug consumption. Hair records a prolonged history of alcohol and other substances by capturing biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When obtained near the scalp, hair offers a detection span of up to roughly three months for alcohol and other drugs. Hair is straightforward to gather, relatively challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch sampling of roughly 200 hair strands (approximately the dimension of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the perfect sample for evaluation and authentication. For EtG, additional tests, and/or screenings beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We suggest measuring the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't available, a comparable quantity of body hair can be obtained. When mentioning head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair covers all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary stages in the laboratory processing of a drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the preliminary treatment of a sample into a lab's system. This process includes validating that the sample was securely sealed and transported properly, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any requisite data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody procedure.

Screening involves an initial rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. While Screening is an economical approach to rule out drug use in the majority of samples, a positive screen requires confirmation for legal admissibility. Any samples that are presumptive positives in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

If a sample indicates a presumptive positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the original specimen and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at much reduced concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), which explains why hair drug screening is the most intricate methodology to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcomes is conducted using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation if required. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection span.
  • Resistance to fraud: Cheating a hair drug test is exceedingly difficult, rendering the outcomes more reliable.
  • Offers historical insight: It can outline a pattern of drug consumption over time, not just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent intake: It requires approximately 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are generally pricier than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal hair growth discrepancies can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although often referred to as "hair follicle tests", the test itself evaluates the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle testing to urine tests in Tallassee, TN, several benefits emerge. Hair tests are often preferred due to their longer detection window, capturing drug use history up to 90 days, which is far superior to the brief detection period of urine tests. This extended window provides a more comprehensive look at an individual's drug use over time, making it a powerful tool for authorities and employers.

In Tallassee, TN, hair testing proves advantageous over urine tests due to its greater accuracy and consistency. Unlike urine tests, hair samples are less susceptible to tampering, ensuring reliable results each time. This makes hair testing an ideal choice for situations demanding stricter adherence to substance use policies, offering trustworthy insights that urine tests may not provide.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Tallassee, TN, provides an extended detection window of up to 90 days, surpassing traditional testing methods. This helps employers gain a complete understanding of a person's substance use history. Such comprehensive analysis offers a broader perspective, vital for making informed decisions regarding hiring and ongoing employment, thus ensuring policy adherence and safety in the workplace.

The advantage of an extended detection window in hair follicle testing is evident in Tallassee, TN. By tracing drug use over a much longer period than traditional tests, employers and professionals benefit from a more accurate history of an individual's substance use, aiding in more informed decision-making. This extended window is critical for maintaining a safe and drug-free environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
