Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Albert, Texas. Whether you require a drug or alcohol hair analysis, our expertise is in hair testing with locations across all cities nationwide to facilitate these tests. The test generally requires 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body. This analysis spans drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offers other tailor-made testing solutions.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have become more prevalent in drug testing protocols. Employers, legal systems, and Substance Abuse professionals increasingly prefer hair tests over the conventional urine analysis. Hair follicle testing is favored by organizations with strict no-drug policies, legal entities, and individuals undergoing probation. The key advantage is its extended detection window, often up to 90 days, superior observation during collection, and reduced potential for tampering. Nonetheless, urine tests still provide optimal validity for identifying drug use within the last five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now regarded as a potent method for identifying drug and alcohol use. Hair offers a long-term history by embedding biomarkers in the fibers of the growing strands. When gathered close to the scalp, it can offer up to around a 3-month detection window for substances. Hair is easy to collect, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and convenient to ship.

A sample of 1.5 inches, about 200 strands close to the scalp (approximately the size of a #2 pencil), yields 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for testing and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, or panels beyond 10, 150mg is suggested. It’s advisable to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, a similar quantity of body hair can be taken. Head hair refers to only scalp hair, while body hair includes all other types (beard, underarm, etc.).

Process Overview

There are four primary stages in the lab processing of a drug test: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the first handling of a sample in a lab system. This involves making sure the sample was appropriately sealed and sent, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any required data entry if not previously done by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is the initial rapid check for drug abuse. Though Screening provides a cost-effective way to dismiss drug use in most samples, any positive screen needs confirmation to be valid in legal situations. Any samples presumed positive in Screening need a further confirmation check.

Should a sample be presumed positive during Screening, more hair is taken from the original sample and set up for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at a much lower concentration than other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening one of the most challenging methods to perform.

A confirmation of any positive screening result is done via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples that are presumptive positive are cleansed before confirmation as needed. The whole process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited according to both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage up to 90 days, as opposed to urine tests with a shorter detection period.
  • Difficult to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is exceptionally challenging, thus ensuring more precise results.
  • Offers historical data: It illustrates a pattern of drug use over time, rather than just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of spotting recent usage: It generally takes 5-7 days for drugs to be evident in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are often costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Results variability: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although frequently called "hair follicle tests", the test examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Choose Hair Follicle Tests Over Urine Testing in Albert, TX? Hair follicle testing offers advantages over traditional urine tests, delivering heightened detection accuracy and reliability. The superior sensitivity of hair analysis ensures that substance use is not overlooked, providing a more comprehensive understanding of an individual’s drug history.

Extended Detection Window in Albert, TX Hair follicle tests provide insight into drug use spanning up to 90 days, offering employers a detailed view of an individual’s substance history. This extended window is crucial in evaluating long-term behavior rather than immediate consumption, providing a comprehensive substance use overview.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
