Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug analyses in Alma, Texas. If a hair drug or alcohol screening is needed, we specialize in hair evaluations, offering services across all cities nationwide. Generally, for a hair test, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is required. Our evaluations encompass drugs, alcohol/ETG, or bespoke hair testing solutions.

Recently, hair follicle drug tests have gained prevalence. Many employers, legal systems, and substance abuse experts now prefer them over standard urine tests. Organizations with strict anti-drug policies, courts, and individuals on probation increasingly choose this screening due to its extended drug detection period, which lasts up to 90 days. It's conducted under observation, making it resistant to tampering. Yet, for recent drug use within 5 days, urine testing remains the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective resource for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair can indicate a prolonged timeline of substance use by capturing biological markers within its strands. When sampled near the scalp, hair can illustrate up to a 3-month timeframe concerning alcohol and drug involvement. Hair is easy to collect, fairly resistant to tampering, and convenient to transport.

An ideal specimen requires a 1.5-inch segment of approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to the thickness of a number 2 pencil) harvested closest to the scalp, offering about 100mg of hair for effective testing and validation. For EtG, further analysis, and/or tests surpassing 10 panels, a specimen size of 150mg is advised. A jeweler’s scale is recommended for measuring the specimen. If scalp hair is unavailable, a similar quantity of body hair can be considered. Reference to head hair pertains exclusively to scalp hair, whereas body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The lab processing for drug test analysis comprises four fundamental steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves initiating the laboratory integration of a sample. This phase includes ascertaining the sample's proper sealing and shipping, allocating a randomized LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and fulfilling any supplementary data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody method.

Screening constitutes a preliminary swift evaluation for substance misuse. Although Screening is a budget-friendly means to discount drug usage across many samples, a positive screen mandates validation for legal acceptability. Samples indicating preliminary positivity in Screening necessitate subsequent confirmation.

Upon receiving a presumptive positive indication during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for the Extraction phase. During this phase, substances are extracted from hair, albeit at a significantly lower concentration than in alternative techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), explaining why hair drug analysis is among the most complex methodologies to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening findings is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples showing presumptive positivity are cleansed before confirmation if needed. The complete laboratory process, ranging from Accessioning to Confirmation, is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair assessments can reveal drug usage up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which offer a shorter detection span.
  • Enhanced test integrity: Hair drug testing is notably challenging to compromise, ensuring more reliable outcomes.
  • Chronicles substance involvement: It reveals a timeline of drug usage rather than identifying recent intake alone.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent consumption: Drugs become detectable in hair roughly 5-7 days post-usage.
  • Expense: Hair drug analyses are typically costlier than other testing approaches.
  • Variability in results: Elements like hair hue and the diversity in individual hair growth may impact the concentration of drug residues in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the procedure actually evaluates the hair strand, not the follicles situated under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Surpasses Urine Testing in Alma, TX is clear in its superior detection capabilities. While urine analyses cover a short span, hair tests expose substance use history over months. This highlights the reliability and detailed chronological insight hair testing provides, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of individuals under review.
Employers seeking certainty should consider this enhanced approach for substantial results.

Extended Detection Window

The Extended Detection Window of hair testing extends up to an unprecedented 90 days, offering a comprehensive view of an individual's substance use history in Alma, TX. Unlike urine tests that provide a limited snapshot, hair follicle tests deliver a long-term perspective. This extensive timeline is invaluable for employers aiming to understand an applicant's drug use, ensuring a trustworthy and informed hiring process.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests are outstanding in minimizing tampering risks, a major advantage in Alma, TX. Unlike urine samples that can be easily manipulated, hair samples offer a tamper-resistant solution. This guarantees the authenticity of test results, reinforcing trust and credibility in the screening process.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
