Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug examinations in Bailey Prairie, Texas. If a hair drug or alcohol examination is necessary, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair assessments and has centers nationwide capable of conducting these tests. At least 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is needed from the crown or body. Hair assessments can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing options.

In recent years, drug testing methods often include hair follicle assessments. Many employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts prefer hair tests over standard urine tests. Hair follicle tests benefit employers with zero-tolerance policies, the judicial courts, and probationers. Notably, they offer an extended drug detection period of up to 90 days and are collected under observation, making cheating nearly impossible. Nonetheless, for recent drug use detection within five days, urine tests remain most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now regarded as an effective means for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair can capture long-term substance and alcohol biomarkers within the fibers as it grows. When collected near the scalp, such samples offer a detection window of up to about three months for both alcohol and drugs. Hair is easy to gather, hard to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A segmented sample of approximately 1.5 inches consisting of around 200 hair strands (akin to a #2 pencil's size) in proximity to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is optimal for analysis and verification. When conducting EtG, additional tests, or tests beyond ten panels, 150mg of hair is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for specimen weighing. In the absence of scalp hair, an equal quantity of body hair may be used. By head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Conversely, body hair encompasses all other types (including facial and axillary hair).

Process Overview

Key laboratory stages relevant to the processing of drug test results include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the primary handling of a sample within the lab’s system, confirming the proper sealing and shipment of the sample, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing additional data entry not available in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides an initial assessment for illicit drugs. While this phase is economical for excluding drug use in most samples, any positive detection must be validated to be accepted legally. Samples with presumed positive screens require further confirmation.

When a sample shows a presumed positive result during Screening, more hair is derived from the original sample for Extraction. Here, drugs are retrieved from the hair at significantly lower levels than in alternative methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluids), making hair drug analysis the most challenging to execute.

Verification of any positive screen outcome uses GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumed positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The complete lab procedure from Accessioning through to Confirmation is examined under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair specifics and meets ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug screening identifies drug usage for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a shorter window.
  • Immunity to deception: Hair drug tests are challenging to falsify, ensuring more accurate outcomes.
  • Historical insight: It reveals drug usage patterns over time, not just recent occurrences.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent intake: Drugs become visible in hair only after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing tends to be pricier than alternate methodologies.
  • Inconsistency in results: Variables like hair color and individual growth variations can influence drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Though commonly dubbed as "hair follicle tests", this analysis evaluates the hair strand, not the follicle below the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

The superiority of hair follicle testing over traditional urine tests in Bailey Prairie, TX, lies in better detection accuracy and reliability. Hair samples reveal longer drug use histories, unavailable through urine tests.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
