Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle screening for drugs in Bayside, Texas. Should you require an analysis for drugs or alcohol, our expertise lies in hair testing with facilities present in cities across the Nation capable of conducting these tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from either the crown of the head or body are needed. Hair analysis can cover drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be adapted for tailored hair screening options.

In recent times, the preference for hair follicle drug tests over traditional methods has surged. Various employers, judicial bodies, and substance abuse specialists demand hair testing rather than typical urine tests. Such tests are favored by organizations with rigid no-drug policies, legal systems, and probation candidates, primarily due to their extended detection timeframe of up to 90 days. Collected under strict supervision, these tests are almost foolproof. Yet, for capturing recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has increasingly become recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair maintains a prolonged history of substance intake by incorporating biomarkers within the structure of the developing hair shaft. When samples are taken near the scalp, they can reflect up to a roughly 90-day detection span for alcohol and other drugs. Collection of hair is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch sample consisting of approximately 200 hair strands (resembling the diameter of a #2 pencil) near the scalp provides a 100mg sample, which is optimal for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, or for panels exceeding 10, a 150mg sample is advised. We suggest measuring the sample on a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair not be available, a comparable quantity of body hair may be used. References to head hair pertain solely to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary stages in processing a drug test result in the lab include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial step of processing a sample into a lab’s system. This step involves confirming the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigning it a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any further data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers a preliminary assessment for substances of abuse. While screening serves as a cost-effective method to exclude drug use in most samples, positive screens require confirmation to hold up in court. Any samples with presumed positives from Screening must undergo a secondary confirmation.

When a sample tests as presumed positive during Screening, additional hair is taken from the initial sample and prepped for Extraction. Drugs are extracted from hair at a significantly lower concentration compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluids), which is why hair drug screening remains a complex methodology.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing prior to confirmation as needed. The entire laboratory sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited both under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair program and in alignment with ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection duration: Hair drug tests have the ability to identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which feature a shorter detection span.
  • Resistant to falsification: Hair drug tests are notably difficult to manipulate, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Depicts historical consumption: It outlines a pattern of drug use over time, rather than just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent intake: Drugs take roughly 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests often cost more than other testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence the presence of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although commonly referred to as "hair follicle tests", the actual test evaluates the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Bayside, TX
Hair testing offers a notable advantage in detection capabilities compared to urine tests. With an ability to uncover substance use over a longer timeframe, hair tests provide a thorough account of an individual's usage pattern in Bayside, TX. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
