Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Blossom, Texas. If you require testing for hair drug or alcohol, Accredited Drug Testing specializes in hair analysis and operates testing centers across all U.S. cities that can conduct a hair test. You need to have 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head, or body hair may suffice in many cases. Hair tests can be utilized for detecting drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing options.

In recent times, the approach to performing drug testing has increasingly included hair follicle analysis. Various employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts are opting for a hair drug test instead of the traditional urine test. Hair follicle testing is favored by organizations with strict drug-free policies, legal entities, and those under probation. The key advantage of hair follicle testing is its longer detection span for drug use, generally up to 90 days, gathered under direct supervision, and it is nearly immune to tampering. However, for detecting drug use within the past 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise method.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has gained recognition as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of alcohol and drug usage by encapsulating biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair shafts. When obtained near the scalp, hair can indicate up to about a 3-month window of detection for alcohol and drug activity. Collecting hair is straightforward, fairly tamper-resistant, and convenient for shipping.

A sample of 1.5 inches consisting of approximately 200 hair strands (equivalent to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or examinations exceeding 10 panels, a specimen size of 150mg is advisable. We suggest weighing the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent volume of body hair may be utilized. For head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary steps in the laboratory analysis of a drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning deals with the sample’s initial processing into a lab’s system. This involves checking the proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and filling in any additional data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of a preliminary evaluation for substances of abuse. While cost-effective for excluding drug use in most samples, a positive screen must be confirmed for court admissibility. Samples that are presumptively positive in Screening require subsequent confirmation.

Should a sample be presumptively positive at the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are separated from hair at concentrations much lower than in other testing methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging methodology.

The Confirmation of any positive screening result is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positive results are washed before confirmation if necessary. The full laboratory process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is subjected to review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests, which offer a shorter detection period.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is exceedingly challenging, which enhances the accuracy of results.
  • Records historical use: It shows a trend in drug use over time, rather than just recent use.

Limitations:

  • Unable to spot recent use: Drugs take approximately 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly than alternative drug testing approaches.
  • Inconsistencies in results: Factors such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact drug metabolite concentration within hair.

Note: Commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", however, the test itself analyzes the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When considering drug testing options in Blossom, TX, hair follicle tests offer distinct advantages over urine tests. Hair testing boasts superior detection accuracy and reliability. Unlike urine tests, hair tests cover an extended period, providing a clearer snapshot of drug usage beyond recent days.

Employers in Blossom find hair follicle testing more effective as it uncovers drug use that might go unnoticed with urine testing. This comprehensive approach fortifies workplace policies against substance misuse, ensuring a safer, more compliant work environment.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Blossom, TX, provides a notable advantage. Unlike traditional methods, hair tests detect drug use over up to 90 days, offering a broader view of an individual's substance history. This extended window allows employers to verify long-term abstinence and make informed decisions.

Employers seeking thorough insight into a candidate's drug history find this method invaluable. By capturing a longer period, it opens a comprehensive assessment of an individual's commitment to sobriety, surpassing the limitations of shorter detection periods associated with other methods.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests offer a significant advantage in Blossom, TX: tamper resistance. Unlike urine samples, hair tests significantly reduce the risk of adulteration, guaranteeing more credible results. This reliability makes hair testing a preferred choice for accurate detection and consistent outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
