Certified Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Buckeye, Texas. Should you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise is in hair testing, with centers across the country capable of conducting such tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is needed for analysis. Hair tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing options.

Of late, the hair follicle drug test has gained traction for drug testing methods. More employers, legal systems, and substance abuse advisors are preferring hair tests to the standard urine analysis. Hair follicle tests are ideal for employers with zero-tolerance policies, the judiciary, and probation monitoring. The primary advantage is their extended detection window of up to 90 days, gathered under supervision, which is nearly foolproof. However, for detecting recent use within 5 days, urine remains the gold standard.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is highly regarded as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures long-term evidence of alcohol and drug usage by embedding biomarkers within its growing fibers. When taken near the scalp, hair can reveal alcohol and drug traces for up to around a 3-month duration. It's easy to collect, relatively resistant to tampering, and convenient for transport.

A 1.5-inch segment comprising about 200 hair strands (approximately the width of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp offers 100mg of hair, which is the ideal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of hair is suggested. It's advisable to measure the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is unavailable, the same quantity of body hair can be substituted. "Head hair" refers solely to scalp hair, while "body hair" encompasses all other types like facial, axillary, etc.

Process Overview

The four principal stages in lab processing of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial sample processing within a lab’s system. This involves ensuring the sample was sealed and sent correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any remaining data not supplied by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary rapid evaluation for drug abuse. Although Screening is a cost-effective method to negate drug use in most samples, a positive screen must be confirmed to be court-approved. All samples that appear positive in Screening need subsequent confirmation.

When a sample seems positive in the Screening phase, more hair is extracted from the original specimen for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at a significantly lesser concentration than in alternative methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is notably challenging.

Confirmation of any positive results in Screening is done using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. Any samples presumed positive are washed before confirmation as required. The complete process from Accessioning through Confirmation is overseen in accordance with the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests that have a shorter detection duration.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is very difficult, improving the accuracy of the results.
  • Provides longitudinal data: Offers a trace of drug usage over time, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent consumption: It typically takes about 5-7 days for drugs to become noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although often labeled as "hair follicle tests", the analysis pertains to the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why choose hair follicle testing over traditional urine tests in Buckeye, TX? Hair testing offers unmatched accuracy and reliability. Unlike urine tests, hair samples provide a more extended detection period, capturing a wider window of substance use. This superior detection capability is essential for employers aiming for thorough and foolproof drug screening procedures.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle tests provide an extended detection window, up to 90 days, a feature that sets them apart in Buckeye, TX. This expansive timeframe allows employers to gain deeper insights into an employee's or applicant's drug use history, offering a detailed look at long-term habits rather than just recent activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
