In Chriesman, Texas, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing. If you're in need of a hair or alcohol drug test, our expertise lies in hair testing, and with centers across all major U.S. cities, we can conduct the test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the head or body suffices. Tests can examine substances, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored hair-testing needs.

Recently, the preference for hair follicle tests over traditional methods has risen. More employers, legal entities, and substance abuse experts mandate hair tests in lieu of urine tests. Organizations with strict anti-drug policies, judicial systems, and those on probation prefer this method. Its main advantage is an extended detection span, often up to 90 days, obtained via direct observation, making it tough to tamper. Nonetheless, urine tests remain unmatched for recent, 5-day usage.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is increasingly recognized as an effective method for revealing drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a detailed record of alcohol and drug intake by holding onto biomarkers within the strands during growth. When gathered near the scalp, hair can offer an estimated 3-month detection range for drugs and alcohol. This method is easy to collect, not easily tampered with, and convenient to send.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches in length with roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil) from near the scalp yields 100mg, which is the optimal amount for screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or those exceeding 10 panels, a quantity of 150mg is advisable. Using a jeweler’s scale to measure the specimen is suggested. If scalp hair isn't accessible, equivalent body hair may be used. When we mention head hair, it specifically refers to scalp hair. Body hair covers any other hair type (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory process for analyzing a drug test result consists of four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial phase of integrating a specimen into a laboratory’s system. This phase ensures the sample was duly sealed and delivered, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data recording not handled by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary examination for substances of abuse. Although Screening is a budget-friendly way to exclude drug usage for most samples, a screen indicating a positive result must be confirmed to be legally valid. Samples showing presumptive positives in Screening must undergo a secondary verification.

If Screening indicates a sample is presumptively positive, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen for preparation in the Extraction stage. Here, drugs are derived from hair at a much lower concentration, distinguishing it from other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluids), which makes hair drug screening particularly challenging.

Confirmation of any positive result from the screening is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples are washed prior to confirmation if necessary. The complete laboratory workflow from Accessioning to Confirmation is validated under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and complies with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests have the capability to reveal drug usage for up to 90 days, as opposed to urine tests that have a shorter detection period.
  • Difficult to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is significantly challenging, leading to more reliable results.
  • Provides usage history: It offers insights into drug usage patterns over time, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent consumption: It typically takes about 5-7 days before drugs become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth rate variations can influence the level of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests," the analysis focuses on the hair strand rather than the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Chriesman, TX, hair follicle tests are increasingly favored over traditional urine tests for various reasons. A major advantage lies in their superior detection capabilities. Unlike urine tests, hair tests can identify drug use over an extended period, offering a more comprehensive insight. This trait makes them invaluable for employers enforcing strict drug-free policies.
Moreover, the accuracy of hair testing surpasses that of urine tests. The likelihood of false negatives is significantly reduced, ensuring that screening results are reliable. As employers and authorities move towards more reliable methods, hair testing stands out for its precision and durability in results.

Extended Detection Window

With hair follicle testing in Chriesman, TX, drug use detection is extended up to 90 days. This prolonged window allows employers to evaluate substance history comprehensively. Unlike traditional tests, hair tests offer a robust view of an individual’s past substance use. This service is essential for employers who are keen on ensuring a drug-free environment and need confidence in the integrity of their workforce.

Providing a historical insight that traditional tests lack, hair follicle testing is invaluable for organizations. This extended window ensures businesses are better equipped when making informed decisions about potential hires, highlighting the importance of a long detection period beyond what is typically achievable with urine tests.

In Chriesman, TX, hair follicle testing is celebrated for its robust, tamper-resistant nature. The process significantly reduces the chance of sample adulteration, providing results that are both reliable and unquestionable. It is a crucial advantage in drug testing, minimizing the potential for erroneous results caused by manipulation.

This reliable testing method empowers employers and authorities alike in maintaining stringent drug policies. By utilizing an observed collection process, it becomes nearly impossible to alter the test outcomes. The dependable nature of hair follicle testing ensures that the received results are both authentic and can withstand scrutiny.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
