Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Colony, Texas. If a hair drug or alcohol test is what you require, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing, with centers across all U.S. cities capable of conducting a hair test. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is needed. Hair tests can be assessed for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailored hair testing options.

In recent times, drug testing methods have increasingly incorporated hair follicle tests. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals often mandate hair drug tests over standard urine tests. Hair follicle tests appeal to employers with strict anti-drug policies, courts, and probation-supervised individuals. Their key advantage is a lengthier detection period, usually up to 90 days, gathered under observation, and difficult to cheat. Still, for detecting drug use in the past 5 days, urine tests remain most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has gained recognition as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a lasting history of alcohol and other substances by encasing biomarkers in the strands of growing hair. By collecting it near the scalp, hair can offer up to a roughly 3-month detection period for alcohol and other drugs. Hair is straightforward to gather, relatively resistant to tampering, and convenient to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches of around 200 hair strands (approximately the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for screening and confirming. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, a 150mg sample is advised. It's suggested to weigh the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be absent, an equivalent amount of body hair can be collected. When referencing head hair, it pertains solely to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result includes four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial integration of a sample into the laboratory’s system. This process checks that the sample was properly sealed and dispatched, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any additional data input not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary rapid assessment for substances of abuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient approach to eliminate drug use in most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation to be legally valid. Any samples provisionally positive in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

Should a sample be provisionally positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen for the Extraction phase. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at concentrations significantly lower than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging methodology.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All provisionally positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The comprehensive laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation follows both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests detect substance use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection window.
  • Low likelihood of tampering: It is exceedingly difficult to manipulate a hair drug test, leading to more precise results.
  • Offers historical insights: It provides a pattern of substance use over time rather than merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days after use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Variables such as hair color and personal hair growth differences can impact drug metabolite concentrations in the hair.

Note: Although commonly called "hair follicle tests", the test itself assesses the hair strand and not the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Colony, TX, hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine testing by offering a more accurate detection of substances over time. While urine tests are effective for recent use, hair tests reveal patterns from up to ninety days, giving a broader picture of behavior.

Employers find hair tests to be less invasive and more durable for tracking long-term substance use among employees. This expansive detection makes it a preferred choice among zero-tolerance organizations.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Colony, TX, reaches up to 90 days. This prolonged timeframe allows for a comprehensive view into an individual's substance history, which is critical for pre-employment checks or periodic screening of current employees.

By analyzing the hair's core components, the test provides a detailed report on the substance use, thereby aiding employers in making informed decisions regarding employment and continued monitoring.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle tests in Colony, TX, significantly reduces the chances of sample alteration. The collected samples, being part of an observed procedure, ensure authenticity and integrity, ensuring that results are both trustworthy and unquestionable.

Compared to urine tests, hair testing thwarts attempts at falsification or manipulation, providing dependable results that authorities and employers can confidently rely upon.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
