Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Cranfills Gap, Texas. Specializing in hair drug and alcohol tests, we have centers nationwide ready to conduct these tests. Generally, a minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is required. Hair tests can analyze drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other tailored testing options.

Nowadays, drug testing methods increasingly favor hair follicle tests. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts often choose them over traditional urine tests. Hair tests serve entities with strict drug policies, the judicial system, and those on probation. Their advantage is a longer detection period of drug use, usually up to 90 days, collected visibly and hard to falsify. Yet, for recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly recognized as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures long-term usage history by encasing biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When obtained near the scalp, hair can reveal a detection period of up to approximately three months for both alcohol and drugs. Hair is easy to collect, hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch section containing around 200 hair strands (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample size for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, or analyses beyond 10 panels, 150mg of sample is advised. We suggest measuring the sample's weight using a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair is not present, a similar amount of body hair can be used. When mentioning head hair, we strictly refer to scalp hair. Body hair signifies any other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test outcome typically involves four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the initial integration of a sample into a lab’s framework. This encompasses verifying the sample’s proper sealing and shipment, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any extra data input not supplied by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary swift evaluation for substances of misuse. While Screening serves as a cost-efficient method to dismiss drug usage in most samples, a positive screen must be validated for legal admissibility. Samples indicated as positive in Screening necessitate additional confirmation.

In instances where a sample shows a presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepped for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are retrieved from hair at considerably lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which positions hair drug screening as a demanding methodology to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is completed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples indicated as presumptive positive are cleaned prior to confirmation if needed. The comprehensive laboratory sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and accredited to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, contrasting with urine tests which have a shorter detection span.
  • Hard to falsify: It is extremely challenging to manipulate a hair drug test, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insight: It can reveal a pattern of drug consumption over time, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot indicate recent use: It requires approximately 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are generally costlier than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth disparities can alter the drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand, not the scalp's hair follicle

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Cranfills Gap, TX, hair follicle testing emerges superior to urine tests for several reasons. Firstly, the detection accuracy of hair tests is exceptional, identifying drug use over longer periods. Unlike urine tests that may miss certain substances after a short time, hair testing captures a broader substance history, providing detailed insights for employers or legal entities.

Compared to traditional urine tests, hair follicle testing offers unmatched reliability. The extended detection window allows for identifying past substance use scenarios, whereas urine tests are limited to more recent activity. This superior accuracy and longer reach make hair testing a preferable choice in sectors demanding rigorous drug use evaluation.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Cranfills Gap, TX, offers employers comprehensive insights into an individual's drug history. With the ability to trace substance use up to 90 days, it provides a long-term perspective missing from other testing methods. Organizations benefit from this broader snapshot, making informed decisions based on extensive background data.

By capturing drug use over a more significant period, hair follicle testing affords employers and authorities a clear view of consistent or changing substance use patterns. The test’s duration not only increases accountability but also helps recognize ongoing challenges in substance management, leading to better-supportive resources tailored to individual needs.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Cranfills Gap, TX, present a robust, tamper-resistant method of detecting drugs. Unlike other tests susceptible to adulteration, hair testing minimizes risk through stringent collection and analysis procedures. The integrity of results is upheld, offering irrefutable evidence of drug use without external influence, fostering confidence in the test outcomes.

For those concerned about sample manipulation, hair follicle testing ensures uncontestable reliability. With safeguards to prevent specimen tampering, the method guarantees that results are both authentic and precise. This resistance to tampering makes it invaluable for environments where the accuracy of drug testing is paramount, ensuring trustworthiness from collection to conclusion.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
