Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Dawn, Texas. Should you require analysis for drug or alcohol presence, Accredited Drug Testing is adept in hair examinations, with locations nationwide that facilitate such testing. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body may be used. Hair analysis can determine drugs, alcohol/ETG, or provide specialized testing options.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has gained prominence over traditional methods. A growing number of employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts are favoring hair tests over urine tests. Such tests are favored by employers enforcing zero-tolerance policies, legal systems, and probation supervision. The key advantage of a hair test is its extensive detection window, up to 90 days, making the test highly reliable and difficult to circumvent. Nonetheless, for detection within a 5-day range, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is regarded as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged record of substances by trapping markers within the fibers of the growing strand. When obtained near the scalp, hair offers up to a 3-month timeframe for detection of alcohol and drugs. Collecting hair is straightforward, challenging to tamper, and easy to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches consisting of about 200 strands (comparable to a #2 pencil in size) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg, the optimal quantity for testing. For EtG, additional analyses, or tests beyond 10 panels, 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing. If scalp hair cannot be provided, a similar quantity of body hair can be utilized. "Head hair" refers specifically to scalp hair, while "body hair" includes other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four main phases in the laboratory drug testing workflow are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the primary step of integrating a sample into a lab's system. This includes ensuring the sample's seal and shipment were proper, assigning a LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any supplementary data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening is a preliminary check for substances. Although Screening cost-effectively rules out drug use for most samples, a confirmed positive screen is necessary for legal admissibility. Any samples testing presumptively positive in Screening need a confirmation step.

When a sample tests presumptively positive, additional hair is extracted from the primary sample and readied for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted at a significantly lower concentration than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair screening the most challenging method.

Confirmation for any presumptive positive is achieved using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positive findings are cleaned prior to necessary confirmation. The entire process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Benefits of hair drug analysis:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter durations.
  • Hard to falsify: Hair tests are challenging to deceive, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Reveals past usage: Provides insight into drug use patterns over time, not merely recent usage.

Drawbacks:

  • Incapable of detecting recent intake: Drugs become detectable in hair after around 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair analysis is usually costlier than other drug test methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and growth differences can impact drug metabolite levels.

Note: Though called "hair follicle tests", the analysis is of the hair strand, not the under-scalp follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Dawn, TX, hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine tests by offering superior detection capabilities. Hair tests analyze extended drug use histories posing a significant detection advantage over urine tests. Intrinsically harder to manipulate, hair tests mitigate cheating concerns, delivering reliable and conclusive results.

Comparatively, hair testing presents an enhanced detection window up to 90 days, contrasting the shorter range of urine screenings. This advantage provides valuable insights into long-term substance use, aiding employers and professionals in maintaining a strict zero-tolerance policy and ensuring workplace safety.

Extended Detection Window

Invest in hair follicle testing for an extended detection period in Dawn, TX. This method offers a much longer window for identifying substance use, typically up to 90 days. Such extensive detection is invaluable for employers seeking a comprehensive understanding of employees' drug-free compliance.

The hair test's extended coverage allows a detailed assessment of an individual's substance history, granting employers insightful data crucial for making informed employment decisions, ultimately supporting a safe and responsible workplace environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing significantly reduces tampering risks in Dawn, TX. Its design makes adulteration nearly impossible, ensuring reliable results. This testing method provides unwavering assurance of authenticity, maintaining a high integrity standard in substance use detection.

Unlike other testing methods, the hair follicle approach upholds stringent sample integrity. Its tamper-resistant nature ensures that outcomes provide a genuinely trustworthy reflection of individuals' substance use, safeguarding the interests of employers and responsible parties.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
