Located in Doffing, Texas, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. If you require a hair-based test for drugs or alcohol, Accredited Drug Testing is your go-to. We have facilities across all cities Nationwide that can conduct these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair, from your head or body, is needed for testing. Hair samples can be evaluated for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing needs.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become more common in drug testing methodologies. Many employers, legal systems, and Substance Abuse professionals now prefer it over traditional urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, courts, and probation officers utilize hair follicle tests. The main advantage is its extended detection window, which can trace drug use up to 90 days, through an observed collection, making it hard to tamper with. However, urine tests remain more precise for screening drug use from the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now perceived as a robust instrument for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. The hair captures long-term biochemical markers within the fibers of its growing strands, thus offering a comprehensive history of drug and alcohol intake. Collecting hair near the scalp enables detection of substances consumed roughly within the last three months. The process of collecting hair is straightforward, making it difficult to meddle with the results, and shipping is convenient.

A 1.5-inch section consisting of approximately 200 strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the optimal quantity for both screening and confirmation steps. In cases requiring EtG, additional tests, or exceeding a 10-panel test, a sample of 150mg is advised. We suggest utilizing a jeweler's scale to measure the sample's weight. In scenarios where scalp hair is unobtainable, an equivalent quantity of body hair is acceptable. Note that head hair specifically refers to scalp hair, while body hair includes other types such as facial or axillary hair.

Process Overview

The processing of a drug test involves four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the initial integration of a sample into the lab's system, confirming that it's been shipped and sealed correctly. A random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number) is assigned, and any extra data entry required apart from the electronic chain of custody is completed.

Screening provides an initial test to identify potential drug substances. Although Screening is economical for excluding drug use in most samples, those yielding a positive result need further confirmation to be legally compliant. Any specimen showing a positive result in Screening necessitates a secondary test for verification.

If a sample tests positive at the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the original sample for Extraction. During this Extracting phase, the concentration of drugs extracted from hair is significantly lower than in methods like urine or oral fluid testing, which is why hair testing is complex.

Results confirmed as positive require validation through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumed positive specimens are cleansed prior to confirmation as necessary. The entire process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair requirements and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Pros of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug assessments can identify drug use extending up to 90 days, whereas urine tests offer a shorter detection span.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is very challenging, thus enhancing the accuracy of the results.
  • Chronological data insight: It can outline a drug usage pattern over time, unlike tests that only show recent use.

Constraints:

  • Recent usage undetectable: It takes about 5-7 days for drugs to become traceable in hair.
  • Price: Hair drug testing is generally more costly than alternative testing techniques.
  • Result discrepancies: Variables such as hair coloring and individual hair growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentrations.

Note: Commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the assessment examines the hair shaft rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Doffing, TX, hair follicle drug tests stand out compared to urine tests due to superior detection accuracy. While traditional urine tests offer information on recent drug use, hair tests provide a broader and more reliable detection range. This means they can reveal a longer history of substance use, making it harder to cheat or mask drug intake compared to urine tests.

Extended Detection Window

One of the significant advantages of hair follicle testing in Doffing, TX is the extended detection window. Unlike other methods, this test can identify drug use over a period of up to 90 days. This feature provides employers with a broad insight into an individual's substance history, allowing for better-informed decisions regarding hiring and workplace policies.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
