Accredited Drug Testing furnishes comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Dunlap, Texas. If a hair drug or alcohol screening is necessary, our expertise in hair testing is unmatched, with centers nationwide ready to assist. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body are required. Analyses can detect various drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing options.

Notably, employing hair follicle drug tests has gained traction compared to conventional methods. Employers, legal entities, and addiction specialists increasingly prefer hair over urine tests. Such tests appeal to employers with strict drug-free mandates, courts, and probation controls. Hair testing's advantage lies in its extended 90-day detection window, collectability under supervision, and resistance to deceit—contrasted by urine tests' efficacy for recent use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as a robust tool for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a comprehensive timeline of alcohol and other substance usage by encapsulating biomarkers within the strands of the growing hair. When sourced near the scalp, hair can provide up to a roughly three-month detection span for both alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively challenging to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches consisting of around 200 strands of hair (approximately the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the ideal amount for conducting screening and confirmation tasks. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests requiring more than 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler's scale to weigh the specimen. If scalp hair is not available, a comparable amount of body hair can be utilized. When mentioning head hair, it specifically refers to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The key steps in processing a drug test result in a laboratory include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning refers to the preliminary processing of a sample into a laboratory's system. This step involves verifying that the sample was correctly sealed and transported, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry not offered by an electronic chain of custody framework.

Screening involves a preliminary quick assessment of drugs of concern. Even though Screening is an economical approach to exclude drug use in the majority of samples, a positive result in screening must be validated to be binding in legal proceedings. Samples that yield a presumptive positive in Screening need a further confirmation.

If a sample yields a presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is collected from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are withdrawn from hair at substantially lower concentrations than in other methodologies (ex. urine or oral fluids), making hair drug screening the most intricate methodology to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All samples with a presumptive positive are cleansed before confirmation as warranted. The entire laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed against both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the compliance to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests are limited to a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Cheating difficulty: It is exceptionally challenging to manipulate a hair drug test, ensuring more precise results.
  • Provides usage history: It presents a pattern of drug consumption over time, not solely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent usage: Drugs become detectable in hair after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expensive: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentrations in the hair.

Note: While commonly referred to as "hair follicle tests", the test itself examines the hair strand rather than the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In the realm of substance detection, hair follicle testing proves superior to urine tests in Dunlap, TX. The benefits are manifold, showcasing enhanced detection accuracy and reliability over traditional urine tests. A hair follicle test excels in uncovering long-term drug use patterns, whereas urine tests are more limited to recent use, making hair testing indispensable for accurate, historical insights.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing grants an extended detection period in Dunlap, TX, up to 90 days. This comprehensive view surpasses that of traditional methods, providing employers with detailed insight into an individual's substance history. The ability to detect drug use over such long durations aids in monitoring compliance and making informed decisions about employment risks, ensuring a safer work environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Characterized as a tamper-resistant method, hair follicle testing in Dunlap, TX, curtails the risk of sample adulteration. The reliability of results stems from the difficulty in altering hair samples, unlike urine tests. This unquestionable reliability makes hair testing a preferred choice for ensuring authentic and accurate results, enhancing trust and efficacy in drug testing procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
