Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Franklin, Texas. Whether requiring a hair drug or alcohol test, our expert team focuses on hair testing with facilities across cities nationwide. Adequate hair length is vital; typically 1.5 to 2 inches on the crown of the head or body is suitable. Our hair tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored hair testing options.

Recently, conducting drug testing often involves a hair follicle drug test. It's becoming a preferred choice by employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals over traditional urine tests. Employers, especially those upholding zero-tolerance policies, alongside courts and probation officers, rely on hair follicle testing. The standout advantage of this method is its extended detection window, spanning up to 90 days, with a highly monitored collection process that is nearly tamper-proof. Nonetheless, for detecting drug use within the past five days, urine tests maintain superior accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as an effective means for detecting alcohol and drug consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When sampled near the scalp, hair offers nearly a three-month detection period for substances. Collecting hair is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A sample consisting of 1.5 inches of approximately 200 hair strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp provides about 100mg of hair, ideal for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, a 150mg sample is advisable. It's suggested to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be absent, a similar quantity of body hair can be substituted. When mentioning head hair, we refer specifically to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory drug test processing encompasses four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary step of integrating a sample into the lab's system. This involves checking that the sample is appropriately sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any additional data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of an initial rapid assessment for substances. While Screening offers a cost-efficient method to rule out drug use in most samples, any positive result requires confirmation for court acceptance. Presumptively positive samples in Screening must undergo further confirmation.

When a Screening stage indicates a potential positive, more hair is extracted from the initial sample and readied for Extraction. During this phase, substances are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening a challenging procedure to execute.

Any positive result from the screening is confirmed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All presumptive positives are washed before final confirmation where necessary. The complete laboratory procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is overseen according to both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug testing can identify drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a more limited detection period.
  • Difficulty to cheat: Cheating a hair drug test is highly problematic, thus enhancing result accuracy.
  • Provides historical data: It reveals usage patterns over time, not just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs require about 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Cost: Hair drug testing tends to be pricier than alternate testing practices.
  • Variations in results: Hair color and individual growth differences can impact drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the test assesses the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the skin.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle testing and traditional urine tests in Franklin, TX, hair analysis demonstrates superior detection capabilities. Detailed and dependable, hair follicle testing uncovers a more comprehensive pattern of drug use. Unlike urine tests, which detect recent usage, hair tests highlight persistent usage patterns, offering a deeper understanding.
Heightened detection accuracy ensures informed decision-making and bolstered reliability.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Franklin, TX offers an unrivaled detection window, spanning up to 90 days. This prolonged timeframe provides employers a thorough view of an individual's substance history.
Extended detection means gaining insights beyond recent behavior, thus allowing better assessments of employee trustworthiness and potential risks, which is crucial in sensitive or high-responsibility roles.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

One of the leading benefits of opting for hair follicle testing in Franklin, TX, is its tamper-resistant nature. Traditional tests can be easily manipulated, but hair testing largely prevents adulteration. Reliable and unquestionable, this method safeguards against falsified results, ensuring peace of mind for employers and stakeholders alike.
Implementing such tests solidifies trust in screening processes and reduces risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
