Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Gary, Texas. Specializing in hair-based assessments for drugs and alcohol, we operate testing centers in every city across the Nation, ensuring accessibility. A sample requires at least 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or elsewhere. Such tests can detect substances, alcohol/ETG, or cater to custom hair testing needs.

Recently, drug testing methods have increasingly adopted hair follicle tests. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse professionals now frequently demand hair tests over traditional urine tests. Zero-tolerance employers, courts, and probation officers favor hair testing due to its prolonged drug detection window, typically lasting up to 90 days, its observed collection process, and its immunity to tampering. Conversely, for recent use under five days, urine tests remain superior.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly recognized as a potent method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair gives a prolonged timeline of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When sourced near the scalp, hair may offer up to a 90-day detection timeframe for drugs and alcohol. It is easy to gather, relatively challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment, roughly 200 hair strands (similar in diameter to a #2 pencil), closest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, the recommended quantity for assessment and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, 150mg of the hair is advised. It's best to measure the hair on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, a comparable quantity of body hair can be collected. When mentioning head hair, we implicate only scalp hair. Body hair includes all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary stages in the laboratory processing of drug test results are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning consists of the preliminary handling of a specimen into a lab’s system. This step ensures the specimen was properly sealed and shipped, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishes any further data entry not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves an initial fast test for drugs of abuse. While Screening is an efficient way to dismiss drug use in most samples, positively screened samples require confirmation for court admissibility. Any presumptively positive samples from Screening need additional confirmation.

Should a sample test presumptively positive during Screening, more hair is acquired from the original sample for Extraction. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other techniques (such as urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug testing is very intricate.

Confirmation for any positive screening result is achieved via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accredited to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection span: Hair drug tests can trace drug consumption for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a shorter detection limit.
  • Tough to deceive: Manipulating a hair drug test is very difficult, thus results are more reliable.
  • Reveals historical data: It offers a timeline of drug use over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent consumption: Drugs typically appear in hair after 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally cost more than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth differences can alter drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although often called "hair follicle tests", the test analyzes the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing excels over traditional urine tests in Gary, TX due to its unmatched accuracy and reliability. While urine tests provide a shorter detection window, hair tests offer a thorough examination of substance use history, ensuring better enforcement of zero-tolerance drug policies.

When it comes to drug screening, hair tests provide a broadened timeline compared to urine tests, enhancing detection accuracy. This capability helps employers and authorities make better-informed decisions about an individual’s substance use history.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection capability of hair follicle testing in Gary, TX is unparalleled, offering insights into drug use up to 90 days prior. This allows employers to thoroughly understand an individual's substance habits, aiding in more informed decision-making processes.

Unlike urine tests, which detect drugs within a short span, hair testing captures a comprehensive picture of substance usage over a longer duration. This broad view aids employers in evaluating long-term habits and maintaining workplace safety.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests are highly resistant to manipulation, ensuring robust reliability in Gary, TX. Unlike urine samples, hair tests are collected in a way that makes tampering next to impossible, offering trustworthy results every time.

By implementing hair follicle drug testing, one can significantly decrease the risk of adulterated samples. This test delivers results free from manipulation, thus providing a clearer and unwavering reflection of an individual's substance use history.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
