Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Hillcrest, Texas. For those requiring a hair drug or alcohol examination, we specialize in this method and offer testing facilities across all cities nationwide. You'll need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair, either from the scalp or body. Our hair tests can be customized to analyze drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific testing requirements.
In recent years, hair follicle drug testing has become increasingly preferred. Many employers, judicial bodies, and substance abuse experts now opt for hair drug testing over traditional urine tests due to its several advantages. Zero-tolerance workplaces, legal entities, and individuals on probation find hair follicle testing beneficial as it offers a longer detection timeframe—up to 90 days—ensured by a supervised collection process and challenging to manipulate. However, for detecting recent drug use within five days, urine testing remains the most precise option.

Hair analysis is increasingly recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair provides an extended record of alcohol and other substances by encasing biomarkers in the strands of hair as it grows. When gathered near the scalp, hair can offer a detection period of up to roughly 3 months for alcohol and other drugs. Hair is easy to collect, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.
A 1.5-inch portion of about 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the perfect amount for analysis and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest weighing the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, a similar amount of body hair may be used. References to head hair specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair includes all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).
Process Overview
The essential stages in the laboratory analysis of a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning is the preliminary processing of a sample into a lab’s system. This process checks that the sample was sealed and transported correctly, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any missing data entry not available through an electronic chain of custody system.
Screening is a fast initial review for drugs of abuse. While Screening is a budget-friendly method to exclude drug use on the majority of samples, any positive screen must be validated for it to be credible in legal settings. Samples that are preliminarily positive in Screening must undergo a secondary confirmation.
If a sample is preliminarily positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the initial sample for Extraction. At this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), hence hair drug screening is the most challenging method to execute.
Positive screening results undergo Confirmation using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptively positive samples are cleansed before confirmation as required. The full lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Note: Although called "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand and not the hair follicle under the scalp.
