Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in LaCoste, Texas. When a hair or alcohol test is required, Accredited Drug Testing is the expert in hair analysis, with facilities nationwide capable of conducting hair tests. To perform these tests, you need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or cater to tailored testing requirements.

Lately, hair follicle drug testing is becoming the preferred method for drug screenings. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse professionals increasingly opt for hair tests over traditional urine tests. These tests are ideal for strict no-drug-use policies, courts, and individuals on probation. Their key advantage is a much more extended detection period, usually up to 90 days, and the monitored collection process greatly reduces the possibility of tampering. However, for drug use detection within the past five days, urine tests still prove most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair tests have become recognized as a robust method for identifying the use of drugs and alcohol. Hair offers a comprehensive history of alcohol and drugs by capturing biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When collected near the scalp, hair can indicate usage over a maximum of a 3-month period for alcohol and other drugs. Hair is straightforward to collect, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to ship.

A 1.5-inch portion consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (around the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is the preferred sample size for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or analyses exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the specimen is advisable. We suggest the specimen be weighed using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not an option, a similar quantity of body hair can be collected. When discussing head hair, we are specifically referring to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four main stages in the lab analysis of a drug test outcome include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning covers the introductory handling of a sample in a lab’s system. This process ensures the sample was correctly sealed and dispatched, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any further information input absent from an electronic chain of custody mechanism.

Screening involves an initial, rapid assessment for substances of abuse. Screening is an economical means to discard drug activity in most samples, yet any positive screen demands confirmation to be valid in legal situations. Samples that test positive in Screening require a follow-up confirmation.

If a sample tests positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the initial sample for Extraction. In this step, drugs are isolated from hair in much lower concentrations than through alternative methods (like urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is among the most intricate methodologies to execute.

Validation of any positive screening result is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumed positive results undergo washing before confirmation, as necessary. The full laboratory process from Accessioning through Confirmation is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards compliance.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection span: Hair drug tests can recognize drug use for a period of up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a briefer detection span.
  • Hard to manipulate: It is extremely challenging to manipulate a hair drug test, enhancing the accuracy of the results.
  • Delivers historical insight: It can reveal a pattern of drug consumption over a timeline, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent consumption: Drugs take about 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug exams are often costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and personal variations in hair growth may influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although sometimes termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis examines the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In LaCoste, TX, hair follicle testing surpasses urine testing by offering more thorough drug detection accuracy and consistency. Hair analysis provides a clearer, long-term perspective on drug use patterns, which urine tests can't match. Employers favor this option because it aligns closely with zero-tolerance policies, presenting a substantial advantage by providing a comprehensive understanding of an individual’s drug history.

Hair follicle tests in LaCoste detect drug use over a longer period than traditional urine tests, offering a more reliable method for ensuring compliance with drug-free workplace policies. While urine tests are suitable for short-term detection, hair testing delivers superior insights into an individual's drug use patterns, enhancing employer confidence in the screening process.

Extended Detection Window

The extensive detection window of hair follicle testing makes it an invaluable tool in LaCoste, TX for assessing drug use over time. This method reveals substance intake up to 90 days prior, offering employers a comprehensive view of a person's history. With its longer detection period, hair testing stands out as an exceptional choice for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of individuals’ drug consumption patterns.

For LaCoste employers, the extended detection window of hair follicle tests provides a detailed understanding of a candidate's or employee's drug history. This method captures drug use patterns extending far beyond typical testing windows, facilitating more informed decision-making. With the ability to see up to 90 days into an individual's past, organizations gain improved visibility into potential risks and compliance concerns.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In LaCoste, TX, hair follicle testing sets a high standard for tamper-resistant drug screening, significantly minimizing fraudulent sample activities. Its inherent resistance to adulteration ensures credibility and accuracy in results, vital for regulatory compliance. The stringent collection process fortifies its reliability, providing LaCoste businesses confidence that their drug testing protocols remain uncompromised and authentic.

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle testing in LaCoste ensures a reliable and defensible drug screening method. This robust testing process leaves little room for manipulating results, safeguarding the integrity of the testing environment. Its security and meticulous methodologies reassure stakeholders of its unparalleled authenticity and unswerving accuracy in substance use detection.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
