Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Las Palmas II, Texas. For those requiring a hair drug or alcohol examination, Accredited Drug Testing focuses on hair analysis, with testing centers available nationwide in every city. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or elsewhere on the body can be used. Hair analyses can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other customized testing needs.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has become more prevalent in drug screening methods. A growing number of employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts now prefer hair drug testing to the traditional urine examination. Hair follicle drug tests are employed by industries enforcing strict no-drug policies, courts, and for individuals on probation. The key advantage of hair follicle tests is a prolonged detection window, typically up to 90 days, conducted with observed collection and are exceedingly challenging to manipulate. Nevertheless, for detecting recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now widely considered an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extensive timeline of substance use by capturing biomarkers within the fibrous structure of growing strands. When taken near the scalp, hair can offer nearly a 3-month period for detecting drugs and alcohol. It is easy to collect, hard to tamper with, and straightforward to send.

A 1.5-inch section consisting of around 200 strands of hair (approximately the width of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg, which is the perfect amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG analysis, additional testing, and panels exceeding 10, a 150mg sample is advised. Using a jeweler's scale to weigh the sample is suggested. Should scalp hair be unavailable, a similar volume of body hair can be used. "Head hair" specifically refers to scalp hair, while "body hair" includes all other types, such as facial or axillary hair.

Process Overview

The drug test processing involves four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, a sample is initially integrated into the laboratory's system. This process confirms the sample is appropriately sealed and sent, assigns it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and fills in any necessary information not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers a preliminary check for drug abuse. While it is cost-effective for ruling out drug use on most samples, any positive result in Screening must be verified to be accepted in court. Samples that test positive during Screening need additional confirmation.

Should Screening indicate a presumptive positive, extra hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. Drugs are removed from hair at concentrations lower than those found in alternate methods (e.g., urine or saliva), which is why hair drug testing represents the most complex method to execute.

Final confirmation of any positive screenings is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS technologies. All positive samples undergo washing prior to confirmation if necessary. The whole process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed in line with both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair standards and adherence to ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests identify drug usage for up to 90 days, much longer than urine tests.
  • High accuracy: Due to the difficulty of tampering with a hair drug test, the results are more dependable.
  • Historical usage pattern: Offers insight into a timeline of drug consumption rather than just immediate usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent consumption: Drugs take about 5-7 days to become evident in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing generally costs more than other testing alternatives.
  • Result variation: Variables like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although frequently called "hair follicle tests," the analysis actually focuses on the hair strand rather than the follicle underneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Advantages of Hair Testing Over Urine Testing in Las Palmas II, TX
Hair follicle testing outshines urine testing for numerous reasons, chiefly its superior detection capabilities and reliability. Unlike urine tests, which often have a shorter window of detection, hair tests provide a more extended overview of substance use. This ability to track drug use over longer periods offers a significant advantage, making hair testing increasingly favored.

The capacity of hair tests to maintain integrity is another key benefit over urine testing. While urine samples can sometimes be tampered with, hair testing minimizes such risks by rendering adulteration nearly impossible. For employers and courts, the added security that hair testing provides ensures more genuine results and greater adherence to drug-free policies.

Extended Detection Window

Prolonged Detection Periods with Hair Follicle Testing in Las Palmas II, TX
One of the dominant attributes of hair follicle testing is its extended detection window, spanning up to 90 days. This duration profoundly surpasses traditional testing methods, giving employers and judicial systems a thorough view of an individual’s drug history. Such an extended window allows for more informed decisions and assessments of an applicant or employee's drug usage.

Employers located in Las Palmas II benefit significantly from hair testing, as it equips them with a reliable method to monitor and assess potential substance abuse. This comprehensive assessment capability is vital for ensuring workplace safety and adherence to strict substance policies, safeguarding the company’s interests.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Resistance to Tampering: Hair Follicle Testing in Las Palmas II, TX
Hair follicle tests are remarkably tamper-resistant, offering an unparalleled level of reliability compared to other drug testing methods. This high level of confidence in testing fidelity is crucial for stakeholders in Las Palmas II, where the assurance of untampered results can influence key decisions. Employers primarily benefit from this tamper-resistant nature, ensuring compliance with drug-free mandates, with results that stand up in legal and professional situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
