Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Log Cabin, Texas. If a hair drug or alcohol test is needed, our specialty brings us to have centers nationwide that handle hair testing. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head or body will suffice. Our tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specialized hair testing selections.

In recent times, hair follicle tests have increasingly been employed for drug testing purposes. Many employers, legal systems, and addiction experts demand a hair drug test over the usual urine test, especially for those upholding no-drug policies. Hair tests offer the significant advantage of detecting drug use over a long period, often up to 90 days, collected under supervision, and tough to tamper with. Nevertheless, when screening recent drug use within the last 5 days, urine tests still prove most accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as an effective means of detecting drug and alcohol consumption. It serves as a long-term record of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the fiber of the hair as it grows. When hair is collected from near the scalp, it can reveal alcohol and drug use over roughly a 90-day period. Hair is straightforward to gather, relatively resistant to tampering, and uncomplicated to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment comprising approximately 200 hairs (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg, the optimal quantity for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional analyses, and/or panels exceeding 10, a specimen amounting to 150mg is preferable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for precise weight measurement. In the absence of scalp hair, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. When mentioning head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively, whereas body hair includes all other types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The comprehensive laboratory process of drug testing involves Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the preliminary processing within a lab’s system. It encompasses verification of correct sealing and shipping of the sample, assignment of a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any missing data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening offers a rapid preliminary check for substances of abuse. While Screening provides a budget-friendly method to largely eliminate drug usage, a positive result necessitates confirmation to hold in legal proceedings. Any presumptive positive findings in Screening require further confirmation.

In case a sample shows a presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted for the Extraction phase. During Extraction, substances are separated from hair at a much lower level than other methods (such as urine or saliva), establishing hair drug testing as the most complex technique to execute.

Positive screening findings undergo Confirmation using techniques such as GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positives are cleansed before confirmation if needed. The end-to-end laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can trace substance use back up to 90 days, unlike urine tests, which offer a shorter scope of detection.
  • Not easy to manipulate: Manipulating a hair drug test is notably challenging, enhancing the accuracy of results.
  • Historical insight: It provides a usage trend over time, rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent intake: It takes around 5-7 days for substances to show up in hair.
  • Expense: Hair testing tends to be pricier in comparison to other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Hair color and individual hair growth differences can impact metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Though commonly called "hair follicle tests", these tests analyze the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing significantly outshines urine tests in Log Cabin, TX. It offers a longer detection window, making its precision superior for understanding substance use over time. Urine tests limit detection to recent use, whereas hair analyses reveal a more comprehensive history. This extended insight is crucial for employers who desire accuracy and reliability in maintaining workplace safety.

Comparing benefits of hair vs. urine tests, hair testing delivers greater reliability. It minimizes opportunities for tampering, unlike traditional urine methods. Employers in Log Cabin, TX benefit from choosing hair testing, ensuring a clearer, in-depth view of substance usage, an essential factor for compliance and peace of mind.

Extended Detection Window

Extended detection windows make hair follicle testing an indispensable tool in Log Cabin, TX. With the ability to trace drug use for up to 90 days, employers receive an in-depth history of past behaviors. This window offers significant advantage over shorter-duration urine tests, introducing comprehensive evaluation for potential hires or current employees.

In Log Cabin, TX, hair testing's longer analysis period provides thorough substance use insight. By monitoring up to 90 days, employers can gauge consistent patterns rather than isolated, recent activities. This method is key in developing a complete understanding of an individual’s history, assisting in strategic hiring and employee decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
