At Accredited Drug Testing, we offer comprehensive hair follicle drug screenings in Loma Linda Colonia, Texas. Specializing in both hair drug and alcohol tests, we provide nationwide centers for your convenience. You will need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair, whether from the head or body, as typically sufficient. Our services offer drug, alcohol/ETG assessments, and other tailored testing solutions.

Hair follicle drug tests have become increasingly prominent for their efficiency in recent years. Many companies, judicial bodies, and addiction specialists prefer these over traditional urine tests. With businesses enforcing strict no-drug policies, hair tests offer a detection capability extending up to 90 days, in a monitored collection setting that is difficult to circumvent. Nonetheless, for recent drug usage within five days, urine tests remain unmatched in efficacy.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now known as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair encapsulates a long-term record of alcohol and drug use through biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When hair is taken close to the scalp, it can offer up to around a 3-month detection timeline for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and easy to ship.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches of roughly 200 hair strands (similar to a #2 pencil's diameter) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is an optimal amount for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest measuring the specimen's weight using a jeweler’s scale. If hair from the scalp is not accessible, an equivalent amount of body hair can be used. When referencing head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair indicates all other hair forms (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four core steps within the laboratory process of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves processing an initial sample into the lab’s system. This process checks whether the sample was correctly sealed and sent, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data input not handled by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary swift evaluation for drug presence. Though Screening helps economically rule out drugs in most samples, any positive result requires confirmation to be legally valid. Any indicative positive samples in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

Should a sample appear positive tentatively in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial specimen and prepared for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most challenging technique to execute.

Confirmation of any screening-positive result proceeds via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Any samples presumptively positive undergo washing before confirmation if necessary. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can document drug use for as long as 90 days, in contrast to urine tests which offer a shorter detection period.
  • Low susceptibility to evasion: Avoiding a hair drug test's results is very challenging, enhancing accuracy.
  • Reviews historical data: It depicts a drug usage pattern over a timeline, not merely the latest usage.

Limitations:

  • Lacks detection of recent use: Drugs become recognizable in hair approximately 5-7 days after use.
  • Higher cost: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other methods of drug testing.
  • Inconsistent results: Variables like hair color and individual hair growth rates can impact the drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle testing against traditional urine testing in Loma Linda Colonia, TX, the former stands out for its superior detection accuracy and reliability. Hair tests have the advantage of a longer detection window, providing a comprehensive overview of substance use, while urine tests are limited to shorter detection periods. This makes hair testing a more rigorous option for employers.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing offers an extended detection window of up to 90 days, crucial for employers in Loma Linda Colonia, TX seeking a thorough understanding of an employee's substance use history. This prolonged period allows for a detailed assessment, helping businesses make informed decisions based on a person's long-term drug-free commitment rather than recent abstention efforts.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
