In Loop, Texas, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments. For those requiring hair drug or alcohol evaluations, our expertise lies in such testing, with facilities across the entire Nation ready to conduct the examination. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is needed. Hair screenings can be tailored for substances, alcohol/ETG, or other specific testing needs.

In recent years, hair follicle testing has gained prominence in drug testing methodologies. Employers, judicial systems, and substance specialists now favor hair over urine tests. This test is popular among employers with strict no-drug policies, legal systems, and those on probation. Its key advantage is amuch extended detection window—up to 90 days—through supervised collection, proving highly secure. However, urine tests are preferred for most recent drug detection, with a precision for the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as a formidable means for detecting substance and alcohol consumption. It offers a lengthy track record of alcohol and drug intake by capturing biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. By obtaining samples near the scalp, hair can reveal up to around a 90-day period of detection for alcohol and drugs. It is straightforward to collect, hard to tamper with, and convenient for shipping.

Gathering a 1.5-inch segment containing about 200 hair strands (similar to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp results in 100mg, which is the perfect sample for analysis and validation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or those exceeding 10 panels, it's advised to use 150mg of the specimen. It's suggested to measure the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair can't be obtained, a comparable quantity of body hair can be used. References to head hair mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Procedure Summary

The procedure for processing a drug test result in the lab comprises four main phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the first phase of handling a sample within a lab’s framework. This step includes confirming the proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigning an unspecified LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any further details not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves an initial swift assessment for substance misuse. While it is a cost-efficient method to eliminate the likelihood of drug use in the majority of specimens, any positive results in Screening must be verified for court admissibility. Any specimens preliminarily positive in Screening necessitate further validation.

If a test sample preliminarily indicates a positive result during Screening, additional hair from the initial specimen is set up for Extraction. At this juncture, substances are retrieved from hair at notably lower concentrations than with other approaches (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening a notably challenging method to execute.

Validation of any positive Screening outcomes is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positive results are cleaned before validation as required. The complete lab process from Accessioning through Confirmation is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 certification standards.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection period: Hair drug testing identifies substance use for up to 90 days, unlike urine testing which has a shorter detection span.
  • Challenging to manipulate: It is exceedingly difficult to deceive a hair drug test, thus enhancing result accuracy.
  • Reveals usage trends: It can trace a substance use pattern over time instead of only recent use.

Drawbacks:

  • Inability to discern recent use: Drugs take approximately 5-7 days to be detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than alternative drug testing techniques.
  • Variable results: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although often called "hair follicle tests", the analysis is conducted on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing has exceeded traditional urine tests in Loop, TX, due to its superior detection capabilities. Unlike urine tests, hair testing provides greater precision and enhanced reliability in identifying long-term drug use. By choosing hair over urine testing, organizations benefit from a more comprehensive overview of an individual's substance history, particularly advantageous for zero-tolerance policies.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Loop, TX is unsurpassed, capturing drug use up to 90 days prior. This broad timeframe allows employers to gain a complete understanding of past substance use patterns. Hair testing is vital for employers wishing to evaluate an applicant's or employee's substance history over a more substantial period than traditional testing methods allow.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
