Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug testing services in Lyford, Texas. If you're in need of hair drug or alcohol screening, we specialize in hair analysis and have centers available Nationwide for conducting these tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is required. Hair tests offer various analysis options for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and more personalized tests.

Over the years, hair follicle drug testing has become a preferred method for screening. Increasingly, employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse counselors opt for hair tests instead of urine tests. These tests are favored by employers with strict no-drug policies and justice systems. Hair follicle tests extend the detection window up to 90 days, making them hard to manipulate. However, for recent drug detection within 5 days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair examinations are increasingly recognized as an effective mechanism for identifying substance and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a protracted record of alcohol and drug use by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair shaft. When samples are collected from near the scalp, they provide up to a roughly 3-month timeframe for alcohol and drug detection. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section of around 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg, which is the optimal sample for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest weighing the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is absent, a similar quantity of body hair might be gathered. When mentioning head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair denotes all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result includes four essential steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the initial integration of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This process entails verifying that the sample was sealed and dispatched correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any supplementary data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening constitutes an initial rapid assessment for substance misuse. While Screening offers a cost-saving approach to rule out drug usage for most samples, a confirmed positive screen is required for judicial admissibility. Any samples preliminarily positive during Screening necessitate further confirmation.

When a sample exhibits a presumptive positive in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are extracted from hair in significantly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), highlighting the complexity of hair drug screening.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptively positive samples undergo washing prior to confirmation as necessary. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with a shorter detection period.
  • Resistance to spoofing: Cheating a hair drug test is highly challenging, ensuring more accurate results.
  • Offers historical insight: It reveals a timeline of drug usage over an extended timeframe, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent consumption: Detectable drug presence in hair requires about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs compared to other testing forms.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual differences in hair growth might influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis scrutinizes the hair strand rather than the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Lyford, TX, hair follicle testing offers significant benefits over traditional urine tests. Hair tests provide a superior detection method, identifying drug traces that might be missed by urine tests, ensuring higher accuracy.

While urine tests cover recent use, hair testing offers comprehensive insight over longer spans. This makes hair tests an attractive option for those seeking a more reliable drug testing solution.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Lyford, TX extends the detection window for drug use, capturing up to 90 days of history. This broader timeframe provides a fuller picture of an individual's substance use pattern.

This extended window proves beneficial for employers aiming to thoroughly assess potential hires or current employees, significantly enhancing substance history evaluation capabilities.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Within Lyford, TX, hair follicle tests offer a tamper-resistant option to traditional testing. The collection method reduces sample tampering risks, delivering results that are both reliable and uncontested.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
