Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Marquez, Texas. If you're seeking a hair drug or alcohol screening, our expertise lies in hair testing procedures, with our centers located across all nationwide cities ready to conduct such tests. You need about 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head crown or body as an alternative. Hair tests can effectively analyze for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing options.

Over recent years, the preference for hair follicle drug testing has surged. It's favored by employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts over the standard urine tests. Employers enforcing zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and those on probation regularly use hair follicle testing. The main advantage is its extensive detection window for drug usage, often up to 90 days. It involves a supervised collection method and is nearly foolproof. Nonetheless, for detecting usage within the last 5 days, urine tests still hold accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as a potent method for identifying drug and alcohol usage. Hair entraps biomarkers within the fibers of its growing strands, offering a lengthy record of alcohol and drug consumption. Hair collected near the scalp can provide a detection window of up to roughly 90 days for alcohol and drugs. It is easy to collect, hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches consisting of about 200 hairs (approximately the width of a #2 pencil) taken nearest to the scalp will produce 100mg of hair, the optimum sample for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests above 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest measuring the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not present, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be collected. "Head hair" refers exclusively to scalp hair. "Body hair" encompasses all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The key steps in the lab processing of a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the initial processing of a sample within a laboratory’s system. This includes confirming the sample was properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any further data entry not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening performs a preliminary check for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is an economical means to exclude drug usage in most samples, a positive result requires confirmation to be valid in legal contexts. Any samples with a presumptive positive in Screening undergo secondary confirmation.

If a result is presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is retrieved from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations than in other procedures (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging method to conduct.

The confirmation of any positive screening result is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleaned before confirmation as needed. The full lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is assessed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair guidelines and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection span: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests offer a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Hard to tamper with: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely challenging, which enhances result accuracy.
  • Historical insight: It can reveal a trend of drug usage over time, not merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: It takes roughly 5-7 days for drugs to be detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug tests are more costly compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Variability in results: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence the drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Though commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis involves the hair strand rather than the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Marquez, TX, hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine tests due to its superior detection capability and reliability. As typical urine tests detect recent usage, hair testing offers a longer detection period, capturing a comprehensive picture of substance habits. Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing, available in Marquez, TX, effectively extends the detection window for drug use up to 90 days. This extensive period provides employers with a broad view of an individual's substance history. Such detailed insights enable informed decision-making regarding potential hires or current employees, enhancing workplace safety and compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
