Located in Meadow, Texas, Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug screening services. If you're in need of a hair or alcohol test, our expertise in hair testing spans across numerous nationwide centers. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your scalp or body is required, sometimes less. Hair analysis can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and more tailored hair testing solutions.

Recently, the trend toward drug testing has favored hair follicle testing more. Organizations, legal bodies, and addiction specialists now prefer these tests over conventional urine tests. This method serves companies with stringent no-drug rules, legal entities, and monitored individuals, offering the advantage of identifying drug use over longer durations—up to 90 days—with difficult tampering chances. However, for detecting recent 5-day drug activities, urine testing remains precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessments have emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair strands offer an extended history of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the fibers as they grow. Collected near the scalp, hair can present an approximately 3-month window for detecting alcohol and drugs. Sampling hair is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch sample containing about 200 strands of hair (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for screenings and confirmations. For EtG assessments, add-ons, or panels exceeding 10, a 150mg sample is suggested. We advocate using a jeweler’s scale to gauge the specimen. If head hair is not present, an equivalent amount of body hair might be obtained. When we discuss head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair includes other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The testing process in a laboratory consists of four principal stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning incorporates the preliminary processing of a sample into the lab system. This stage verifies the sample’s integrity and proper shipment, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any additional data entry absent in an electronic documentation system.

Screening provides an initial rapid assessment for drugs. Screening is an economical way to rule out substance use in most samples, yet a positive screen requires verification for legal acceptance. Presumptive positives in Screening demand a subsequent confirmation.

If a sample is apparently positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, substances are isolated from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral), which makes hair drug screening the most complex approach.

The confirmation of any positive screen result is performed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. Before confirmation, all presumptive positives are cleansed as needed. The complete procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can uncover drug usage over a period extending up to 90 days, contrasting with urine tests, which have a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Cheating on a hair drug test is considerably difficult, enhancing result reliability.
  • Historical usage data: It provides insights into drug consumption patterns over time, beyond just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs take around 5-7 days before being detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally cost more than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Outcome variability: Variables such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth may influence drug metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the testing actually examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the skin.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When it comes to drug screening in Meadow, TX, hair follicle testing has distinct advantages over urine tests. Offering superior detection accuracy, these tests effectively highlight drug use over extended periods. Unlike urine tests, hair samples provide reliability in results that urine tests often lack.
For employers and law enforcement officials, choosing hair follicle tests ensures you achieve a detailed and trustworthy assessment of an individual’s drug-use history.

Extended Detection Window

One of the standout benefits of hair follicle testing in Meadow, TX is its ability to trace drug use over an impressive duration of up to 90 days. This feature furnishes employers with invaluable insight into an employee’s or applicant’s substance usage patterns.
Unlike other tests, this method captures a broader timeline, enhancing decision-making with comprehensive awareness of an individual's historical drug involvement.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Meadow, TX diminishes the risk of sample tampering, providing businesses and institutions with reliable and trustworthy outcomes. The collection process, being directly observed, inherently minimizes meddling chances, strengthening the dependability of results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
