In Moore, Texas, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. When in need of a hair or alcohol test, our specialized centers are available nationwide to conduct these tests. You'll typically need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair, whether from your head or body, for these analyses. Hair tests can help identify drugs, detect alcohol/ETG, or fulfill other specific testing requirements.

The hair follicle drug test has become increasingly popular in recent years. Many employers, court systems, and substance abuse specialists now choose this method over the traditional urine test. This change is largely due to its longer detection window—up to 90 days—and the test's unparalleled accuracy, collected in a monitored setting. Nevertheless, for detecting drug use within the last 5 days, the urine test remains the most precise option.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessments have emerged as a robust mechanism for uncovering the presence of drugs and alcohol. Hair offers a comprehensive archival account of alcohol and various drugs by enmeshing biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair shaft. When obtained near the scalp, hair can furnish nearly a 3-month timeframe for alcohol and drug detection. Hair is straightforward to gather, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment comprising around 200 hair strands (roughly parallel to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the perfect quantity for analysis and validation. For EtG, additional charges, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the specimen is advocated. We propose measuring the specimen on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is inaccessible, a proportional quantity of body hair may be obtained. When addressing head hair, we consider scalp hair specifically. Body hair denotes all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary phases encompassed in the laboratory processing of a drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the preliminary processing of a specimen into a laboratory’s framework. This incorporates validating that the specimen was sealed and transported correctly, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry not supplied by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves an initial brisk scrutiny for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient approach to preclude drug consumption on the majority of samples, a positive screen must be substantiated to be permissible in court. Any samples that are tentatively positive in Screening do necessitate an ancillary confirmation.

If a specimen is tentatively positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepped for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are withdrawn from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in alternative methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is the most complex methodology to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening finding is conducted through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All tentative positive samples are cleansed prior to confirmation as warranted. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Lengthy detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which possess a briefer detection period.
  • Challenging to manipulate: It is exceedingly challenging to manipulate a hair drug test, rendering the outcomes more precise.
  • Dispenses historical data: It can offer a pattern of drug consumption over a span of time, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: It takes approximately 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Elements such as hair color and personal variances in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: While frequently labeled as "hair follicle tests", the examination itself evaluates the hair shaft and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Moore, TX, hair follicle testing is superior to urine tests for several reasons. Hair tests excel in providing a longer detection period, reaching back up to 90 days. This makes it more reliable when assessing substance use history. Traditional urine tests can't match this level of historical insight, providing merely a snapshot of recent usage.

Besides, hair follicle testing is nearly impossible to cheat, ensuring integrity in the results. This is a significant advantage over urine testing, which can be subject to tampering.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Moore, TX, makes it an invaluable tool. Capable of tracing substance use over a 90-day period, it offers a comprehensive look into an individual's drug history. This broad view provides employers with crucial insights to ensure workplace safety and compliance.

  • Longer detection window
  • Comprehensive substance history

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Moore, TX, drastically reduce the chances of tampering, safeguarding the integrity of drug tests. The method involves an observed and secure collection process, making it nearly impossible for individuals to corrupt their samples. This reliability offers irrefutable results for employers who need to make informed decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
