Providing comprehensive hair follicle drug tests across Nolanville, Texas, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair screening. Whether it's drug or alcohol analysis, our nationwide centers are equipped for accurate hair testing. Typically, samples require 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body. These tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or can be customized to suit specific needs.

Hair follicle drug tests have gained popularity over recent years as a reliable method for drug screening, increasingly preferred by employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals over standard urine tests. Employers with strict drug-free policies and courts often opt for these tests due to their extended detection window of up to 90 days, which far surpasses urine tests. Furthermore, the hair test's observed collection makes tampering nearly impossible, though urine tests may still be more precise for detecting very recent drug use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Accredited Drug Testing

Hair testing is perceived as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair can provide an extensive historical record by encapsulating biomarkers within the fibers of the developing strand. When taken close to the scalp, the analysis can offer a detection period of nearly three months for alcohol and other drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of around 200 hair strands (roughly a #2 pencil's width) close to the scalp yields 100mg, the optimal amount for analysis. For EtG, additional assessments, or tests beyond 10 panels, a sample of 150mg is preferred. We advise using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample. If scalp hair is not present, a similar amount of body hair could be gathered. "Head hair" specifically refers to scalp hair, while "body hair" includes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The drug test result laboratory process involves four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial stage of entering a sample into the laboratory's system, which includes validating the sample's proper sealing and shipping, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data entry not submitted through an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an initial check for drug abuse. Screening is cost-effective for negating drug use in most samples, but a positive result requires confirmation for court admissibility. Any samples that test presumptively positive during Screening need a subsequent confirmation.

If Screening shows a presumptive positive, more hair from the original sample is prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most complex methodology.

Confirmation of any positive result from screening is conducted utilizing GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All presumptive positive samples undergo necessary washing before confirmation. The entirety of the laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair standards and accredited to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage for up to 90 days, while urine tests offer a shorter window.
  • Difficulty to cheat: Cheating a hair drug test is challenging, resulting in more reliable outcomes.
  • Provides historical data: It delivers a pattern of drug use over an extended period, unlike just recently used data.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests tend to cost more than other testing methods.
  • Variations in results: Factors like hair color and individual growth differences can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although often labeled as "hair follicle tests", this test actually analyzes the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle tests greatly outperform traditional urine tests in Nolanville, TX by offering a wider detection window and higher accuracy. Notably, hair testing can reveal an extended drug use history, making it superior in detecting recurring substance abuse. This method ensures comprehensive screening for a reliable and thorough evaluation of substance use over time.

Extended Detection Window

In Nolanville, TX, the extended detection window of hair follicle testing presents a distinct advantage. Capable of highlighting drug use over a 90-day period, this screening tool offers employers an in-depth perspective on an individual's substance history. This prolonged window facilitates informed decision-making by providing a thorough view of extended drug consumption patterns.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests ensure a trustworthy method by significantly reducing tampering risks in Nolanville, TX. Unlike other samples that may be more prone to adulteration, hair tests stand resilient against manipulation, yielding assured and definitive results. This method considerably heightens the integrity of drug testing procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
