Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Red Rock, Texas. Whether you need a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing is a specialist in hair testing, with centers in every city across the nation to conduct these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or elsewhere on the body is required. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offer other custom hair testing options.

Hair follicle testing has become a more common method for drug testing in recent years. This method is increasingly requested by employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals over the traditional urine test. Businesses with strict drug-free policies, judicial systems, and probation services prefer hair follicle tests for their longer detection period, which can be as long as 90 days. Given the observed collection process, this test is nearly impossible to cheat. However, urine tests remain the best option for identifying drug use within the last 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a historical record of alcohol and drug traces by embedding biomarkers within the hair shaft. When acquired near the scalp, hair can provide an approximately 3-month detection window for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, resistant to tampering, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch portion of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for analysis and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of hair is suggested. Using a jeweler’s scale is advised to measure the sample. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent volume of body hair can be utilized. In reference to head hair, only scalp hair is implied. Body hair includes all other types (facial, body, etc.).

Process Overview

The principal stages in the laboratory evaluation of a drug test outcome comprise Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the initial integration of a sample into the laboratory’s system. This step verifies proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any supplementary data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody protocol.

Screening is a preliminary assessment for traces of abuse drugs. While Screening is an economical method to exclude drug usage in the majority of cases, a positive screen requires confirmation for legal admissibility. Any samples presumptively positive in Screening mandate further confirmation.

If a sample is preliminary positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is drawn from the primary specimen for Extraction. At this stage, substances are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations than in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening one of the most challenging methodologies.

Confirmation of any positive screen results is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positive results are washed before confirmation as necessary. The entire laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation alongside the accreditation under ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a more limited detection span.
  • Hard to manipulate: It is exceedingly difficult to deceive a hair drug test, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Historical usage data: It charts a timeline of drug use over time, not just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Incapability to detect recent use: Drugs take around 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal variations in hair growth can influence metabolite concentrations in the hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair shaft, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Red Rock, TX, hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine tests with its unmatched detection accuracy and reliability. While urine tests highlight recent consumption, hair tests offer a longer detection period, effectively revealing past substance use.
Such tests present less opportunity for manipulation, ensuring honest results. Businesses gain confidence in their hiring and compliance processes when opting for hair tests over traditional urine analysis.

Hair tests provide a superior window into an individual's drug history, assisting professionals and employers in making more informed decisions. Their comprehensive and precise nature places them above conventional urine tests in terms of reliability and authenticity.

Extended Detection Window

With its significantly extended detection window, hair follicle testing in Red Rock, TX, tops alternative methods by providing essential insights on drug use over three months. This 90-day insight into an individual's substance history offers employers profound awareness of an applicant or employee's behavior.
Such comprehensive analysis aids in making informed hiring and managerial decisions, fostering a safer and more productive work environment.

Employers benefit from the robust timeline of a hair follicle test, gaining clarity on long-term behavior that shorter detection windows cannot match. This granularity empowers companies to maintain and enforce their drug-free policies effectively.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The hair follicle test is celebrated for its tamper-resistant nature, making it a standout amongst drug testing methodologies in Red Rock, TX. The collection process is closely observed, minimizing the chance of swapping or contaminating samples, in contrast to other testing methods.
Such reliability ensures that results are genuine and dependable, fostering trust between employer and employee in maintaining a safe and consistent drug-free environment.

Without the opportunity to alter or tamper with the sample, hair follicle testing provides results that are both reliable and unquestionable. This enhances trust in workplace testing procedures, protecting businesses from potential liabilities that can arise from inaccurate or falsified results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
