Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle substance testing in Roanoke, Texas. If a hair drug or alcohol evaluation is required, Accredited Drug Testing is an expert in hair assessments with centers nationwide ready to perform the test. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your scalp or body is necessary for most evaluations. Hair assessments can reveal drugs, alcohol/ETG or other specific options.

Recently, hair follicle drug evaluations have become increasingly popular in substance testing methodologies. Numerous employers, judicial entities, and substance abuse specialists now favor hair drug assessments over traditional urine exams. Employers enforcing strict anti-drug policies, courts, and individuals on probation utilize these tests. The main advantage of hair follicle drug evaluations is their extended detection window, typically up to 90 days, secured through an observed collection method, making them almost impossible to falsify. Nonetheless, for recent usage within the past 5 days, urine evaluations remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a chronicling of alcohol and drug usage by encasing biomarkers in the strands of the continuously growing hair. When obtained near the scalp, hair gives an approximate 3-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. Hair is straightforward to gather, relatively hard to tamper with, and convenient to send.

A 1.5-inch piece comprising roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or assessments surpassing 10 panels, 150mg of the hair specimen is advised. It is recommended to measure the specimen on a jeweler’s scale. In the absence of scalp hair, a similar quantity of body hair may be obtained. Mention of head hair exclusively refers to scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test outcome mainly involves the following steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the preliminary processing of a sample into a lab’s system. It comprises verifying the sample's proper sealing and dispatch, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any outstanding data input not addressed by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary swift check for abuse substances. Screening is a cost-efficient approach to negate drug consumption in most samples, however, a positive screen must be verified to be permissible in court. Any specimens deemed presumptively positive during Screening must undergo further confirmation.

Should a sample be deemed presumptively positive in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for Extraction. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is notably challenging.

Verification of any positive screen outcome is facilitated through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive specimens are cleaned before confirmation when necessary. The entire lab process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is assessed under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation along with the ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection duration: Hair drug analyses can identify drug consumption for up to 90 days, whereas urine evaluations have a shorter detection span.
  • Tough to manipulate: It's exceedingly tough to manipulate a hair drug assessment, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Offers historical insight: It provides a usage pattern of drug consumption over time, rather than just recent use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent consumption: Drugs become traceable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing typically incurs higher costs than other testing techniques.
  • Outcome variations: Aspects like hair color and individual disparities in hair growth can influence the drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Often termed as "hair follicle tests", the assessment examines the hair strand, not the hair follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing offers significant advantages over traditional urine tests. In Roanoke, TX, this modern approach ensures a superior detection window and higher accuracy. While urine tests can only identify recent drug use, hair tests delve further back, offering insights into patterns over the last 90 days. This makes them more reliable for consistent policy enforcement in workplaces.

Employers relying on hair testing benefit from the high resistance to tampering. Unlike urine, hair samples remain unaffected by common evasion strategies. This, combined with longer detection capabilities, makes hair testing an ideal choice for many Roanoke employers. The superior accuracy and reliability of hair testing fulfill advanced drug testing needs effectively.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing is a significant advantage in Roanoke, TX. This method captures a comprehensive drug use history of up to 90 days. Therefore, it provides employers and individuals with a full-spectrum view of substance use trends, enhancing evaluations beyond immediate consumption and leading to informed decisions.

Employers can utilize this broader detection window for a more comprehensive understanding of an applicant's or employee's past substance use. Unlike shorter-term tests, hair testing uncovers prolonged usage patterns, offering a more accurate picture of behavior. This capability is essential for thorough assessments and strategic decision-making concerning employment security and substance management.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Roanoke, TX, offer tamper-resistant solutions for drug testing. Unlike urine tests, the risk of manipulation or adulteration is significantly reduced with hair samples. This ensures trustworthy and unequivocal results, reducing concerns over the alteration of sample integrity and living up to high accountability standards.

The intricacies of hair testing make it an ideal method to combat cheating. Natural resistance to common tampering techniques helps maintain the accuracy of results. By choosing hair testing, employers and individuals ensure that the outcomes are dependable, with minimal room for doubt, thus safeguarding the reliability of their drug testing procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
